it's because the Big 12 plays only 3 OOC games and only one of their conference games is a gimmie(kansas)

every other team in the Big 12 you have to show up against or you will lose

meanwhile in the SEC half the conference games you don't even need to show up for this year, Kentucky, Vandypants, Ole Mrs, Pississippi State, Tennessee and Florida are all teams that aren't capable of pulling any sort of upset.

Auburn is a team that can only pull an upset if you play really badly. Kind of similar to Texas Tech(Tubberville lol)

Yeah, the SEC beats each other up.

WAIT! Before you jump me for that comment. I am not talking about on the field. Alabama and LSU have beat up much of the conference on the recruiting trail. They have been by far the most consistent recruiting teams over the past four years. Whereas you can't do what Bear Bryant used to do and hoard all of the talent on one team anymore. You can spread that talent out over two teams effectively enough to handicap much of your conference. Florida, of course, would be in a much better place had they not had a seismic shift in their coaching staff. Going from the triple option spread to a pro set is not a quick transition.

Arkansas really deserves a lot of credit for doing what they have with what they have recruited. They really haven't seen that much success in recruiting. Of course it shows with their defense and one sided offensive style. But they make it work for the most part.

This year the Big 12 is beating each other up more than the SEC...

This is true. Having Baylor and Iowa St step up to a half way competent level has helped your conferences strength. Kansas St, Okie Light, Baylor and Iowa St have all been pretty surprising this year. You never know, it might be a sign of a shift in conference supremacy. They common belief is that college football works in seven year cycles. Well the SEC is likely to be on it's way to its 6th straight year of having a team when a NC and being considered the best conference in the nation. If the old belief is true then that cycle may be working. It's hard to say for sure though. If Florida can make a move in the next two years, Auburn actually utilize their great recruiting classes as well as Georgia... With Alabama, Arkansas and LSU not showing any signs of slowing down either. You never know really. Next year will help predict that a little more. If Baylor, Okie Light and Kansas St can continue to compete there may be something to that. I guess the bowl games this year could serve as an indicator. However if there are two teams from the SEC in the BCSNCG then it will be hard to really get a feel for that. If the third best team in our conference is playing the best of another, ya know. It just trickles down from there. Not really a optimum outcome for the SEC overall as far as overall Bowl match ups go.

Baylor and KState both have a problem with a) recruiting and b) if their current coach leaves. Okie State will always have at least an average team most years. Kansas, who knows, they screwed up firing Mangino. Losing A&M and Mizzou are the SEC's problem, not the Big 12's. WVU has won more games and has a higher winning % than either. TCU will be the question mark going forward.

Yeah, I was not on board with the SEC picking up Mizzou over WVU. I really wanted WVU. The SEC probably screwed the pooch there. One major thing for the Big 12 is if Texas can sort out their problems. That is a head scratcher. For a team to continue to pull in the recruiting classes they do and not have a real coaching change and still struggle the way they have is ridiculous. Perhaps they will sort it out. With the way the conference leans on that program... I don't know what will come of that if they don't get it together.

The Big12 doesn't have any good teams. Oklahoma and Kansas State would be taken to the woodshed by LSU and Bama. Not sure how good Okie State is even after the Iowa State lose.

Kind of hard to claim Big12 is better than the SEC when the SEC has more ranked teams and more top ten teams.

Big12 looks a lot like B1G this year, a lot of mediocre teams and no dominant teams.

I don't think LSU or Bama would have any trouble with any of the B1G or Big12 teams as well and would be running through this conferences just like they have ran through the SEC this year.

TCU has a lot of momentum along with a great coach who's set on staying there. I think they will be a really good get for the Big 12.

if Baylor can convince Griffin and Wright to stay another year, which isn't crazy for some reason I see them doing that

Baylor could very well be the favorite to win the Big 12 next year.

that should help with recruiting

2 teams in BIG TWELVE with a record below .500
2 teams in the B1G TEN with a record below .500
5 teams in the SEC with a record below .500

Who has all the mediocre teams again?

:dunce:

the Southern conference makes it easy to call the Big 12 better

Pure speculation. I haven't seen LSU or Bama play a complete game this year except against inferior competition. Hell, WVU put up over 400 yards against LSU's defense...I'm sure OU and Okie State with better offenses could do the same and score.
