I think Kyle needs to open up his offense more to get more speed on the field.

Mahomes had the advantage that the refs weren't going to call any holding penalties in this game. There were numerous ones that were agregious, such as a fully stretched out jersey keeping the defender from getting to the QB, type stuff.

Not placing blame on the refs, but they clearly weren't going to call the penalties that often times can be considered objective.

The refs let both teams play I thought, and imo did a great job of making themselves mostly transparent.

Sure, but you must call the obviuos stuff. It's a flaw with the NFL, and makes it a bit hard to watch at times.

Should put in place the Belichick rule. Make every single play reviewable, but keep the amount of reviews the same as it is now.

Not so sure about the DPI in the end zone. I know Pereira agreed with the call but to me it didn't look like he touched (Kelce?).... He was falling back into endzone and it wasn't (imo) because he was touched. Wouldn't have mattered if Sherman hadn't gotten beat BADLY by Hill. Also, better throw by Mahomes and easy TD and that call never would have happened

I don't know man, they made Mahomes look as bad as he has ever looked and then some. That's just not an offense that can be stopped by a defense for 4 quarters when it is healthy.
I agree but like I said last week and @NinerSickness slammed me with probowl this and all pro that, the Niners secondary is not great and Sherman is old and looked like it on the Watkins play. When the Chiefs were able to slow down the pass rush from just the front 4, it was only a matter of time before Mahomes picked them apart. Wilson did the same thing to them this year. Mobile QBs can burn those guys when they start to get tired. We all pretty much agreed that the clock was going to be Shanahan's best friend in this game and they had too many short possessions in the second half. Knockdown passes, 3 and outs, etc. all plays right into Mahomes, Bieniemy and Reid and what they do best.

What where his stats in the other playoff games?

Their formula is to run or take short high percentage passes to kittle or one of their other receivers and rely on YAC.

They didn't stick to the formula late. It smelled of panic in the play calling.

That's coaching
Sure, but its also JG's fault. He is making Russell Wilson money. Win the game. Be the man.

Neither QB was all that fantastic, Mahomes just did a better job in the end. The both had passer ratings under 80.

The talent gap at QB was exposed as the pressure mounted in the game. You can blame Shanahan, and I think that may be fair, but he was trying to manage the talent gap. He played the cards he was dealt and nearly won a ring. Next year, this team with a few other additions might win it. But you still have the fundamental problem of a mediocre Qb for championship football. Not bad, just mediocre and somewhat inexperienced.

I voted they both share the blame equally but I have always felt playing with a QB at the level of JG is an incredible handicap. It forced Kyle to do stupid things like not calling the TO at the end of the half because he feared the other QB more than he trusted his own.

The play calling was abysmal late but the plays were there, his QB just failed to make them which is why I feel they are both to blame.

I concur on the end of the first half. That was playing not to lose and usually that results in a loss. I didn't think any of his other decisions were that bad. I thought on that FG attempt they got screwed with the spot a little and if they got a better spot I think they go for it instead of kicking the FG.

As far as Jimmy G goes, he just isn't that good. He isn't horrible by any means, but he isn't a guy that is going to really win you a game either. So as a coach are you to pretend that he is? It's easy to second guess at this point but you are trying to pull a game out in spite of Jimmy G, not because of him. It's hard to blame Garoppolo for just playing like Garoppolo. If the 49ers feel they want to scapegoat him and get rid of Shanahan (they obviously won't) I suspect there will be a long line of teams looking to hire him and hopefully starting with my team...

Well...the salary wouldn't indicate that, but their game plan kinda does. The NFC playoff games he barely passed it 25 times combined. It really showed when suddenly SF was behind...and the game was on his shoulders, Jimmy G never looked comfortable.
Exactly, like I said in the game thread, good completion numbers but a lot like Kirk Cousins. He will make the odd good good throw and you think okay, mayve the guy has got something but he isn't calm in the fire. He is still pretty green in football terms though so we will see if he gets better. He will need to if San Fran wants another shot or 2.

I put the blame for the 49er's loss squarely on the shoulders of Patrick Mahommes and Andy Reid. i.e. the better team won

Jimmy G is over rated and was exposed for what he truly is.

Mahomes was off for most of the day. Reid, Hill, Kelce, Watkins, and the run game picked up the slack.

Yeah, I took his MVP as one of those, "well we have to give it to someone" types. Same as Brady's SB MVP early in his career.

Endzone DPI...maybe face guarding is legal. I thought he was making contact with Kelce in the endzone when the ball was enroute. Couple that with not making any attempt to locate or make a play on the ball...imo it deserved a flag.
