I thought that John Wick killed him at the Continental.

Did Joe Alleva become the Michigan State AD? This sounds like something he would have done for Les before showing him the door.

They could've fired him before January 15th and used that bonus money to pay a new, better coach. Womp.

It is a one year deal. He typically gets these retention bonuses once every 4 years. It definitely looks bad and I’m at the point I hope Dantonio retires but I don’t feel he should be fired.

I was hoping he was going to retire, but maybe next year.

Easy to mock, but would Dantonio's replacement really be an upgrade?

A dude willing to make a change when he sees things aren’t working? Didn’t turn out great for Lester.

Another year of "It's 4th and 7 at the 35 and MSU is lining up for a fake FG attempt"

Is there any truth to the fact that Izzo would leave if they fired Dantonio?
I read something about it in an interview and I think it was more of a matter of if MSU tried forcing him out, he would consider leaving but he wants them to retire at the same time. I’m curious on who MSU could get and what we would look like after Izzo. We aren’t a blue blood and we aren’t exactly a destination job but our basketball program isn’t in the same state of disarray as our football program is.

Izzo Defends Dantonio: 'He’ll Be Here As Long As He Wants'

I'll say this, and it might sound crazy - Michigan State might benefit from letting them both go. Izzo is a great coach, no question, but he's made Michigan State into a name school in the college basketball world. Also, unlike football, there's a ton of high-end talent in the north. I know he has normally stayed away from the 5* "1-and-done" types, but I feel like they could pull some if they wanted, even with a new coach. There are also a lot of young, talented coaches that would make the leap to MSU in a heartbeat in basketball.

At any rate, Dantonio has to go, and football is the real cash cow in college sports.

If I was a high end recruit for a son, I wouldn’t send I him to State. He doesn’t do well with one and doners, Bridges or JJJ didn’t improve their stock at all here. If my son was a high level but not needed seasoning then maybe.

And that has served Dantonio well. He has been so consistently good because his team always seems to be led by upper-classmen. That said, his NCAA title is 20 years old, and it isn't like MSU basketball is some huge moneymaker. If those were the stipulations, I'd trade in Izzo and go after someone else if it meant giving the football program a much-needed shot in the arm.
