He might not say it, but I will. If it wasn't for special teams, Wisconsin would be the best team in the nation. If people saw either of our losses, it should be obvious that we would be undefeated if we had average special teams, so this shouldn't be that controversial.

Yeah, and if those assholes didn't have an offense to score on you they wouldn't have won the game. Special teams is a big part of a football team and if they aren't that good then it can definately lead to the team being bad.

The funny thing about taking the averages of something is that you can have a whole bunch of really awesome games and then one bad game and the other games can cover up for the bad game.

If you want to use the special team argument well OU lost to Tech by 3 and our 'Special Teams' Field Goal kicker missed 2 damn field goals.

So I guess OU is undefeated, if not for special teams.

Am I supposed to be offended by this logic? If so, i'm not. Oklahoma, Boise, and Bama, much like us, would be undefeated it if wasn't for special teams fuckups. That's been one of the consistent themes on the year, and should be a message to any coach out there. You can have the better offense and the better defense, but if you don't recruit good kickers, punters, coverage men, and protection men, it might not matter.

I can't imagine there has ever been a 2 loss team that was closer to being undefeated. The difference is literally a blocked punt for a touchdown in both losses, and even then, MSU and Ohio State both needed 40+ yard TD's on their final plays of the game to win.

Last I checked OSU didn't need a 40+ TD on theif final play to win. They had plenty of time left to make more than one play.

They would have had time for a very long FG attempt on 4th down. Or could have tried for a 1st down pass to the sideline, but an incompletion or not getting out of bounds would have ended the game.

Problem with rankings is they are uniformly distributed but the data behind them is normally distributed. Rankings are not a valid way to compare because of this.
