His 0.7 WAR ain’t exactly blowin’ my nips off.
It's an underwhelming move to fill RF when most had hopes for Castellanos or Ozuna. No doubt.
They love his upside, I am assuming. He was a top prospect a few years back. A lot of raw power. Still 25. Not to mention, he hits left handed. Which was something we didn't have much of.
I've followed Mazara's career from playing daily fantasy on DK/FD every day, non-stop during baseball. He goes through a scorching hot phase every season where people think he's figured it out. Then, he just disappears. He had a month this year where he may have gotten like 3 or 4 hits. No joke.
I am interested to see what we do with him. Texas power hitters are all taught this insane launch-angle (even insane by today's standard) with just a long ass bat-head path. It results in a ton of K's.
I wouldn't mind seeing us correct that a bit. I'm not saying hit to all fields but just... calm it down.
Castellanos/Ozuna weren't anything special imo...Not that this guy is, but of all the things to b*tch about for this team...Signing this guy vs. one of those two is low on the totem pole.
That he's a lefty vs. those two being righties is the most positive aspect.
