The Dolphins are a member of the Pioneer League in FCS.

In a statement, the university said it made the decision “with input from experienced, independent consultants ... after a data-driven evaluation of Division I intercollegiate athletics.”

“As a University, we are investing and innovating to match our offerings to the 21st century marketplace and to support the diverse demands and interests of our students,” said Jacksonville University President Tim Cost in a statement. “This investment profile requires careful analysis, realistic planning and – occasionally – difficult decisions to help drive us forward to excellence.”

Not absolutely horrible for 21 years. They must be in the red.

I don't doubt that. Imagine being in a conference like this while trying to save money.

Without a doubt that is terrible. The NCAA really needs to step in and fix these fucking conferences.

Yes, imagine being San Diego and your closest conference foe is in Iowa.

ok. my question is, I'd like to know what revenue all the below sports bring in for the university. Isn't Football usually a moneymaker? although with the idiotic conference footprint, I can see it being strained. but love to know what the drag on the university is for many of the women's sports.......

Football has much higher expenses that the other sports listed. I wouldn't be surprised if it is the sport costing the school the most money after revenues.

The Pioneer League exists as football only and was formed on the heels of the NCAA forcing a bunch of D1 schools to stop being non-D1 programs in football in 1993. JU joined eventually after starting their program as an independent a few years later.

For most sports, the Dolphins are part of the Atlantic Sun which is far more regionally pleasing.

It is in a lot of schools. For many years basketball generated as much/more than football did for my team. 15 home basketball games of 10,000 was better than 6 home football games of 12,000.

Because of the 85 scholarships, it can be a money loser if there isn't good attendance. Outside the P5, the TV money isn't that great for the G5s. Those sacrificial money games from the P5 schools is what can put a athletic dept in the black...or just less further in the red.

isnt pioneer football non scholarship too??

Yes and the only public school out of the bunch is Morehead State who probably should've joined the Ohio Valley by now.

Jacksonville's players have scholarships for the remainder of their time there as long as they stick around.
