That is soooo wrong, I mean letting this football program fail.

Alumni need to speak up, the basketball program looks most likely to be trending up why not get the football team finally to live up to the money....
It is really sad... I think you were right in your previous post. It is going to take a really really good coach that can turn this thing around. Right now they will continue getting scrap players, no top level recruits will ever want to play for UNLV unless they start winning.

The basketball team will never be as bad as the football team but the standards are much higher when it comes to basketball at UNLV. I'm hoping UNLV hoops will be back to the top of the conference before too long.

@mcnabb7542 @unlvmariners

What are your thoughts on the Sanchez firing? 5 years. A 19-40 record. Never won more than 5 games in a season.

If the people that run UNLV want the program to get going in the right direction they gotta spend the money to bring in a coach that's had some kinda coaching success. Because it would be a shame to see the Rebels move into their new home with a middle of the road (or worse) coach that's done nothing.

Yeah I think the pressure of the higher paying boosters might have gotten their way on this one.
You need to show progress in today's college game, and 5 years in gives you at least two to three recruit classes of players you picked and the record on the field wasn't that great.

They need to go shopping at the lower level and see if they can get some up and coming winner and let him build his way with new digs on the horizon.

They should have given him one more year. He was really responsible the practice facility getting done, and never got a chance to use it. For recruiting or otherwise.
Whoever comes in will have a recruiting advantage that no coach in unlv's history has had. They better win the mwc in 2 years.

For what? So he can recruit kids there based off the new facility just so they can go out and record another 2-10 record on the field?

I know Gary is loved down there and he had built a fantastic program up at Gorman but sometimes you have to cut ties to the guys we love and find someone that take the program out of the dumpster and make it a name in the college football world!

Shopping for a coach at the lower level could mean more of the same for the program.

I want them to turn things around just like you or anyone lese in this thread. But I think if they can't afford to pay a better coach not much will change.

I disagree about one more year. Five years & couldn't get bowl eligable once? That's not good. And if I remember doesn't Sanchez have some ties to the Fretitta's? If so that wasn't enough of a reason for him to keep the program stuck in neutral. He didn't show good signs of improvement in 5 years. Giving hime one more year wouldn't change anything.

You answered your own question!

That is why you go get a DII coach that established himself and his program at the lower level. You aint going to be paying out millions to the guy. He is gonna have to come in and prove his worth, which in turns means he has to win, which in turns means if he wins they money will be coming very easily to give him that raise down the road.

I was thinking more a coach that's had success at the FBS level. But I understand what you're saying. I just want them to get going in the right direction. Whoever the next coach is hopefully he's the right one.

Just throwing a name out there, about the only one I can think of right now. How about Youngstown State's Bo Pelini? When he was the coach of Nebraska he won at least 9 games each if his 7 years there. And was 4-3 in bowl games.

That was the reason they built the practice facility.
