I was really thinking about Nagy's post-game comments

... and I've come to the conclusion that his logic just falls apart under even the slightest of examination. The indignation in his response also just bothers me.

Let's start with "Why didn't you try to run the ball?"

Nagy's response (in a nutshell): "In that situation they know you're running. You're only going to risk losing 3-4 yards."

That just seems to be such a ludicrous notion. Teams trailing by one score also know the opposition is running late in the game with clock around two minutes when they're burning time outs. How often do we see the opposition move the chains and end the game? Multiple times per week.

The Chargers were rotating three UDFA's at DT. They've been gashed by the run all season. They were gashed by the run vs the Bears. They had been on the field for 38 minutes vs the Bears. How could you possibly be so sure that you can't pickup 5-10 yards on a couple of run plays? Isn't Nagy supposed to be "imaginative" too? You can't think of anything that might catch them off balance a bit? Something with the QB? Hell, how about your lover boy Patterson? Nothing?

Anyway, then he's asked "How about throwing the ball?"

Nagy's response: *Looks at reporter like he's speaking to him in Spanish* What if we get a sack what if we fumble?

Adds (which I think is important) I thought we were in field goal range before the (Trubisky) scramble

So, let's start with the obvious cognitive dissonance here. Nagy is saying he believed that the team was in-range for Piniero to win the game PRIOR to Trubisky's scramble. Where he then HAD TRUBISKY DROP BACK TO PASS.

Then he's asked why not throw the ball and his answer boils down to "We were in field goal range. Why risk throwing?"

Well, Matt... in your own words "We were in field goal range before the scramble". So, why did you have Mitch drop back then? What happens if you get a sack or a fumble? Why wouldn't you have the same concern?

Clearly, you do understand the idea of cutting a 51 yard kick down to a 41 yard kick. Yet, you can't FATHOM the idea of making a 41 yard kick a 31 yard attempt?

Second, to answer that question of "what happens if you get a sack or a fumble?" I would like to have said to him "The same thing that happened when you settled for a 41 yard field goal on a windy day at Soldier Field. You LOSE the game."

Also, this goes back to "we were already in range". If you were already in range 11 yards back before Trubisky's scramble. Why aren't you in range after a sack? Which usually nets a loss of 5-8 yards.

I mean, so long as we're only painting worst case scenarios; how about factoring the one that... ya know... actually fucking happened to you? THE MISSED FIELD GOAL. Yet, you're going to act righteously indignant over imaginary ones?

THIRD, this dude comes back on the podium today and doubles down. He says "I forgot to add about running the ball. What if we get a holding call?"

AGAIN, MATT. I thought you were in range before the scramble? 11 yards back. Holding is a 10 yard flag. So, where does that factor into your "doomsday" fears over running another play? You said yourself that you were FINE with Piniero kicking from around 50 yards.

That sucked dude. Personally, I find Nagy easier to defend than other parts of this team which have failed. But I've come to the conclusion that this just sucked and that his explanation sucked HARDER.

Nagy's arrogance was always going to be an issue if/when the losses came...This was foreseeable in the way he handled winning.

Nagy suffers from Emery syndrome

thinks he's this innovate mind, smartest-guy-in-the-room mentality that outsmarts himself.

And he get's very touchy when people "dare" to question his decision-making.

Bottom line is he is stubborn and is way over his head. He has way too much control over this offense. during the charger game he was coaching up the entire o-line AND sending the plays to Mitch.

He needs to hand over play calling (especially in the red zone) for the rest of this season.

Did anyone ask, "How bout centering the ball for your kicker, rather than kicking from the left hash?"

I have to assume that they asked Eddy where he wanted to kick from before they downed the ball...If they didn't...FFS...

Asked Eddy Pineiro directly if he wanted to be on the left hash for the final game-deciding kick Sunday. He said that was not his preferred spot. (Pineiro immediately felt very bad for saying that out loud. But man ...)

Nagy talks too much. Usually people who talk a lot are stupid as hell. Smart people answer questions and communicate ideas as efficiently and quickly as possible. The two best coaches today are quiet and terse in their responses. Nagy is a moronic windbag.

It's one of those years where nothing can seem to go right. You can tell it's wearing on Nagy. We'll really see what him and more of the team is made of as the season winds wears on. We've got enough talent to win some games so we'll see if they get it together under Nagy or if things continue to spiral. Big test for Nagy.

I was curious when Trubisky didn't go to the middle of the field to kneel. Usually that's what teams do.

My take on his comments was that he doesn't trust his QB. and now he can't trust his kicker ..... again

Last week was our big "rally together and get off the mat" game. Losing that (especially the way we did after dominating) had to be such a big mental blow.

I have no idea how we'll respond, but it will probably say a lot about us.

If you can’t score there will never be consistent winning and the confidence that would come with it. This has been hammered home by this very franchise for 30 years or so now. Nagy’s going to be tuned out for sure. Rah rah only goes so far with children, much less adults.

Another thread where no one even tries to fight that Nagy was an idiot for settling.

I really hope the Bears continue to rely on the continued injury of key players on the Teams they have coming up. Heh.

Yeah, have to say, even tho we also have some some nasty injuries to key players (see Daniels, Cohen), it does seem as if the team we're about to face each week has even more key players down.
