Also, it's not a true 4K signal being put out by Fox. It's just 1080p. So, in essence, these games for Thursday by Fox are just getting upgraded from 720p to 1080p (which is almost impossible for the human eye to differentiate).

Either way, your TV's processor is the one responsible for doing all the heavy lifting here, as it needs to upscale the 1080p to 4K. And depending on what TV you own, some do upscale processing a lot better than others (Sony is the best for example). What brand and model do you own?

It’s an exciting step forward for live sports in the US, but the press release came with a caveat: the game will still be produced in 1080p HDR and get upscaled to 4K for delivery. Thanks for all the info. I’m a believer now. Really had not paid much attention to 4k, except for movies. A lot of content there. It is definitely a bit better and have confirmed that 4k actually works on my TV.

No. I have loads of 4k content feeds. Never really thought about it until today.

I have a 65" Samsung 4k LED hanging in the living room and the picture is pretty sweet. I also have a 12-13 year old 46" Samsung LCD HD hanging in the kitchen and by golly, that picture is pretty damn nice too.

I have Direct TV and couldn't tell you what they do with their signal as far as compression goes to be honest and I don't really care since both TVs look awesome.

What TV do you have and does it have HDR? Depending on when you purchased, not all 4K TV's have HDR and it's the HDR part of the broadcast here which is more important than the 4K.

If you put a 1080p and a 4K (2160p) TV side by side, you would need to sit like 2-3 feet away from them for your eyes to really discern the difference in resolutions. However, the much bigger differences in overall picture quality come with HDR which makes colors a lot richer, blacks deeper, brighter highlights, and improves contrast and sharpness. But HDR is only available on 4K TVs these days.
