He was caught unprepared for the Raps bench after the first 2 games... Thereafter he was out performed by the Raps coach, who changed the Raps tactics in the three games that followed... Bud was unable to adapt his tactics mid game when the Bucks were losing in tactics for the whole season and so he is in the playoffs... He understands what's going on, only after he reviews the game after he is looking at the video. Mid game he is unable to answer.

He did not change tactics. And he should of.

But, to answer your question, Bud's defensive strategy was to help off of players like Siakam and Van Vleet.

Why help off Van Vleet? A career 39% 3 point shooter?

Prior to game 4, Van Vleet was 7 for 37 from 3 in the playoffs and 3 for 25 since the start of the Philly series. Milwaukee had the exact same defensive strategy in game 3 where Van Vleet went 1-11. And no, he was not ever going to shoot 8 3s in a game where he is tightly guarded. That isn't Van Vleet's game.

Bud shoul led have adjusted his rotations a bit when Can Vleet got hot. But, he wasn't simply "unguarded" and there was good reason that he was the player Milwaukee was helping off of at first.

Can the Bucks run it back? Lots of pretty important FAs for them. Middleton, Brogdon, Mirotic, Lopez, Hill

But there was good reason to doubt this team before Kawhi.

This year, it wasn't so much about doubting the Raptors as it was about thinking the Bucks were better than they were. Everyone universally declared that the East challengers were all head and shoulders better than they were last year.

Got to give credit to the Raptor defense.

They were unbelievable.

It is not easy to provide enough help to stop those Giannis drives without leaving too far off shooters to get a good contest. It will be interesting to see how they defend GS, who plays a much different style.

One thing is for sure, GS will need Iggy healthy to deal with Kawhi.
