If it rains in Pocono that weekend, they're fucked. I'd also prefer Charlotte hosting the season finale. They also need more road courses.

:fear:

So many bad things with that schedule it's hard to know where to start.

It looks like NASCAR is trying to kill Homestead (no loss there), Pocono, and Indy in advance of 2021 when they can take more radical swings at the schedule. Taking the 2nd Daytona race off of it's historic July 4th weekend--and to put it in the middle of hurricane season. Phoenix as the finale. Martinsville in November (move the snow threat from the spring to the fall). Back-to-back off weeks in the summer.

While I want to give them credit for trying things, there's so many bad things it's hard to commend them for it.

Not to say it's all bad. Trying a doubleheader is good, but it would have been better at a cookie cutter. Since they seem to be doubling down on the playoffs, having the elimination races be at tracks that can get unpredictable has potential. Moving Atlanta to after the west coast swing makes sense from a weather standpoint.

Maybe I'll say more later, but that's my initial take on it.

My own proposal probably isn't much better, but here it is.

February
1 Homestead-Miami
2 Daytona

Daytona hasn't always started the season so traditionalists don't get that argument. Plus, if HMS isn't gonna finish, they might as well let them start. It's not exactly a bad thing to spend February in Florida. Not to mention, HMS can serve as a great Saturday Night appetizer for Super Bowl Weekend which means Speedweeks can go as usual and Floridian auto racing fans won't have to go far in between the 24 and Speedweeks.

March
3 Atlanta
4 Texas
5 Phoenix
6 California
7 Sonoma

Up to Atlanta then head out West. Rain should be less of a factor by the time they get to Napa Valley.

April
8 Las Vegas
9 Kansas
10 Talladega

The end of the Western tour and sports fans getting to enjoy Talladega without missing out on Derby Week up in Louisville.

May
11 Bristol
12 Martinsville
13 Charlotte
14 Richmond

Bristol's not too bad a drive from Louisville and the weather should be great by the time they get to Martinsville for Mother's Day Weekend. This also sets up for Charlotte's All-Star Weekend to be in its usual spot.

June
15 Dover
16 Pocono
17 Pocono
18 Kentucky
19 Michigan

This is when the Northern Tour usually starts up anyway, plus we get the Pocono 2-fer.

July
20 Indianapolis
21 Chicagoland
22 Michigan

The Midwest portion of the schedule is bookended by Michigan while IMS gets Independence Weekend.

August
23 New Hampshire
24 Watkins Glen
25 Dover
26 Daytona

Hurricane season is a motherfucker, but that notwithstanding, I like having Daytona as the last race before the Chase. This part goes down the coast from New England to Florida.

September
C1 Darlington
C2 Richmond
C3 Martinsville
C4 Bristol

Darlington on Labor Day Weekend after most of the College Football stuff has wrapped up with the exception of 1 or 2 games by this point and also the Southern 500 green flagging the Chase. Richmond, Martinsville, and Bristol get good spots while the weather should be decent, or at least not cold.

October
C5 Kansas
C6 Las Vegas
C7 Phoenix
C8 Texas

Back to the warmer climates and Western tracks as the season starts winding down.

November
C9 Talladega
C10 Charlotte

Talladega to determine who completes the Final 4 which makes for high drama and the home of NASCAR finishing up the season. I think Charlotte was also where the season finale was in Stroker Ace, so there's that. Plus, it would be the Roval setup and that's already proven dramatic.

This bracket/chase points system bullshit is what is killing or has killed NASCAR. It doesn't reward consistency like the old system and everyone knows it was Brian France's attempt to mirror stick and ball sports primarily the NFL which NASCAR still can touch when it comes to ratings.

Here is what should be done: Get rid of cookie cutter mentality. From tracks to cars. Let the manufactures bring in their unique stuff so fans know the difference between the manufactured products on the racetrack besides have different noses and asses; Go back to foundation tracks like North Wilksboro and other such venues.

Next, go back to the original points system which rewards consistency. Stop all this attempt to be a mirror of college bracket system bullshit or of being like the NFL with their play-off system. Just stop all of that shit!

Lastly, support your fans. Stop treating fans like they are a bunch of flippin idiots who are not sophisticated enough to be corporate. In fact, I like to beat the crap out of those coroporate assholes that show-up from time-to-time at teh tracks and look down their noses at all of us fan peons that they are taking money from on race day.

trying to count how many times chase has been fucked over today. so far 3

1st while leading with a great car. then the 47 decides to cut a tire and spin right in front of leader. chase slows to avoid only for dumb fuck lapper to not know how to break and plows right into chase

then 2nd losing power steering

and just now, the 6 and 12 trying to wreck each other blaney cuts Newman off and chase is the one that gets fucked by it

I remember when I first started getting into NASCAR back around 2005, you'd have to pay 2-3 times the ticket value per seat. The past 5-10 years or so, it's looked like you could sit anywhere you want and have a good seat. Shows how far the product has fallen IMO.
