Brienna of Tarth is dead. The knighting was her last hurrah...

Do you see Dany betraying Jon in the future? She has some tyrant tendencies, I don't see her accepting Jon's existence.

The show has gotten so hokie they might as well have her play housewife queen to King Aegon and live happily everafter.

I hate Sansa Stark, I hate the character in the books, I still hate the completely different character she is on the show, and I even hate the actress that plays her.

But damn if she didn't look good in black leather and chains. Never thought I was into S&M or whatever until I realized I would do whatever it took to get that.

I was so hyped for this season when they were telling us each episode was going to be feature length and wall to wall action. This episode was about as exciting as a slow speed Chase through space. And it didn't do anything to move the plot forward either individually through any character or collectively. Arya got sexed and talked to 2 people that shes taken off her list. But it didn't feel significant. At first it felt like the actress wanted to get naked like everyone else on the show. The way all those Nikolodean actresses go crazy with selfies on instagram to show they're all grown up now and sick of people thinking of them as little girls. But then from the shots they used it seems like they used a body double, so my first thought didn't make sense. They hinted at trouble between Sansa and Dany, but went out of their way not to leave that for later. Tormund got a Luke Skywalker moment, but instead of any cool moments to borrow from Star Wars, they chose to have him messily drink milk. Jon told Dany the news we have known for like 4-5 years now on the show, but again they purposefully didn't do anything with it. The fireside chat felt like the writers just ran out of ideas and said "let's just put all their favorite people together in a room and hope that makes them happy." Knighting Briane was a cool moment, but it somehow felt cheapened by Tyrion clapping. Grey Worm and Mellisandrei were like "Hey, we're still here too." Sansa being a bitch to everyone except freaking Reek/Theon.... I dunno I guess that's in character for her, shes dumb. Sam the Slayer if he really felt like giving away a giant 2 handed Valyrian Steel sword to somebody he barely knows, should have given it The Hound. That scene felt weird.

Whatever. It is what it is at this point. At least we find out how it ends.

The only characters at Winterfell guaranteed to live past next episode are:

Jon Snow - " " " "
Daenarys Targaryen - both having unresolved issues after finding out who Jon really is
Sandor Clegane - who has to fight The Mountain in a future episode
Arya Stark - who everything to this point has her killing some big name, either Cersei or the Night King

Obviously more characters will live, and Episode 2 was much about saying goodbye to those that die.

*Please note these weren't actual spoilers, just my opinion.

I don't know about Dany, if Jon is the Prince that was promised, he might have to sacrifice Dany in order to wield lightbringer and defeat the NK. Or maybe Dany will sacrifice herself in some way accepting Jon as the true heir. Who knows though, maybe that doesn't matter at all. All I know is they still really have no idea how to kill the NK unless we are assuming that he is vulnerable to the same things as other WWs.

Also, I can see Dany going simply because no one is expecting it.. just like Ned. It would definitely catch a lot of people off guard and take the show back to its no one is to big to die origins which as someone pointed out, they have gone away from.

Based on the events from the last 2 episodes, I think the following aren't making it out of the Battle of Winterfell

Theon (what's the story for him anymore? He redeemed himself with his Greyjoy family by saving Yara. Now its time to redeem himself with the Starks by saving Winterfell)
Pod
Beric
GreyWorm
Missandei (at least one of these two)
Jorah (he is so so fucked. Though the way he's set up, maybe its too obvious)
Ed
Tormund :(
Jaime
Brienne (one of these two dies saving the other. I feel like at least one is dying regardless)
Damn near everyone in the crypts (They mentioned that waaaaay too much. My guess if Sansa is there, she makes it out along with Gilly and Lil Sam. I say they make it because it'd be totally fucked up to have Sam's family killed after his named family is already dead.)

I feel like most all the other characters, especially the major ones will make it out. Episode 3 will wipe out most of the secondary characters and will have one "big" death for impact (my guess Jaime). It makes sense with how the story is structured because the remaining characters can then settle things in the final 4 episodes. There'd be too many loose ends to tie up in those final episodes if they don't clear a good chunk of the table here

Stuff I loved.

Ghost is alive and well!! First time we see him since??? Jon's resurrection?
Ed, Sam and Jon reunion.
The reunion by the fireplace and Brianne's knighting. Tormund was great as always.
Sansa and Dany's conversation. Nice to see Sansa standing up for the north.

Arya's sex scene was weird. It felt wrong.

That could well be. But next episode is obviously another grand battle. I'm going to guess they leave all the palace intrigue about who is Hand, who is the elder Targaryen, etc., until they live to Episode 4. GoT isn't going to reveal Jon's true origin to Dany in the closing moments of this episode, not resolve it and then sound the horn for battle, killing either of them.

Interesting how they have made Dany sort of unlikeable and trending towards maybe even a villain???

It is kind of exposing her entire story arc as someone who has possibly just been lucky to have the best advisors, friends, lovers, and confidantes ever assembled to get this far....and now she wants to go against all their adv

She seems more petty and annoyed about everything while all those friends are doing the heavy lifting for more noble reasons.

The writers are trying to do a reverse Jamie Lannister with her at the very end or at least tease the concept of it.

It might be convenient for the plot and shock value to kill her off rather than waste episodes trying to uncomplicate the whole mess of this annoying wannabe tyrant Dany they created in season 7 continuing through this season.

Favorite still alive would probably be Jamie.

Favorite overall was Oberyn even though he only lasted one season.

In season 7? She's always had tyrant tendencies, from crucifying all the masters in Mereen to her speech on top of Drogon after she burned the Khals, she needs someone who can restrain her. She wants to do good things, but she's a big believer in "the end justifies the means".

What most fans wanted:

An extended and likely poignant scene of Arya with the hound coming full circle after spending multiple episodes together having built one of the more unique arcs of two character. Instead, we got about 15 seconds aborted by the arrival of 3rd tier character Beric.

What most fans did not want:

An extended creepy scene of childlike Arya suddenly wanting to get laid by someone she barely knew back when she appeared to be about 10 years old. We got the full creepiness along with some cringeworthy dialogue lines, and then we got a bedside epilogue as well later on just in case we hated it the first time.

Doubt Jamie dies yet, at least not until we see Bronn again. Will that all go down in this next episode? Meet just as the fight starts? Doesn't feel legit, but who knows.

They have setup the relationship and rammed it down our throats how much dany loves Jon. Sure she is cold blooded and has been extremely driven on her goals... until she met him. They had that scene with her and Sansa for a reason. There will be more dialog between them in the next episode, but I'd be shocked if Jon doesn't try to convince her he made a promise to her and isn't going to go back on his word or some shit.

Of course the show made her unnecessary, but that too doesn't mean she is a goner. He can control the dragons just as well as she can. And they have gone out of their way to point out how the north is NEVER going to be hers without a fight later on.

If it follows old school formulas (which they have done a lot more of recently) he's going to profess his support of her, and at some point she will realize he's better and change her pledge to him. The whole reluctant king coming into his own blah blah blah.

Theon is supposed to be a great archer. Maybe he dies, but I doubt his full redemption is complete without something more to add besides simply dying for Bran. He takes out some of the NK's top dudes or something.

This was in response to a question in another thread that apparently got merged into this one. Would have preferred it got deleted than merged with no context.
