I was appalled when the Mariners traded their top 5 prospect Tyler O for THIS Marco guy.
Then I did a little research.

It is still early in the TRADE.
So what are the thoughts?

I'm trying to stay positive on the dude, the trade was still retarded. But with Marco we will not know anything until the season starts. He was great last season with the Mariners when facing a MLB lineup once, struggled the 2nd time through and was BP if he ever saw a guy a third time.

I was pissed at the trade as well, but the only silver lining is that he was just coming off major shoulder surgery and it takes a full season to recover which will be now. Because of it, he was unable to throw his best out pitch last year so here is crossing fingers.

He's looked pretty good so far in ST. They say it's the 2nd year after TJ surgery until the player is fully back, so hopefully this is going to carry over into the regular season. Lord knows we need it.

No way to know yet. I could envision a scenario where he may be our third best starter but that’s not saying a ton

This is where I'm hopeful, but at the same time I don't get why Jerry would trade for him if he had no options left. Sign in the 2019 offseason. I don't know anything about TJ but his stuff seemed great first time through the order. I don't recall him losing control at the 4th inning but could be wrong.

Dipoto is the master dumpster diver... always looking for an end of the rotation arm while playing lets make a deal.

Gonzo has had a decent enough ST and with a little luck and run support I think he can be a serviceable #5 pitcher moving forward.

lefty starters don't grow on trees in the MLB forest.

If he holds up thru the season and delivers anything near 175 innings and posts up a sub 4.5 ERA I will take that all day.

Our staff needs innings eaters with the frailty of Felix and Paxton always lingering

So pissed when Dipstick traded off O'Neil and we got Gonzo. He just might have something to offer though. His stats in ST are decent - pitched 21.2 innings with 18K's, an ERA 1.69 and a 1.03 WHIP. Too early to make a call on this one but the potential seems to be there and he's got a good attitude. Hope he can shake off his rising ERA with the Cards though. Time will tell but watch and see how the O'Neil trade comes back to bite us like so many others have once they get out from under the M's hex.

Marco with a decent outing against the Rockies Tuesday. 94 tosses before the hook arrived during the bottom of the 5th. Looks like he's ready to go.

I still would like Tyler O along with Gonzo. LOL Overall, not knowing how Tyler would have panned out with us, we know what we have with Marco and I like it. He's shaping up to be a #1 at some point- if not already with the M's.

I'm happy to admit that so far I've been wrong.

I initially thought it was a disaster and was shocked to see JD defend it so adamantly.

I still think that Tyler O'Neill will likely have a promising career, but I didn't anticipate that Marco would pitch so well. To me he appeared to be a back of the rotation type guy, but over his last 35 starts he has a 3.87 ERA. So far I can't complain and I hope that my initial thoughts regarding him continue to be wrong.
