NASCAR Monster Energy Cup: Daytona 500

This year is the 40th anniversary of the 1979 edition of this race where some things happened.

This year, it's an 18 hour prerace followed by a 40 car conga line, but hey you never know what can happen at these things.

The defending Champion of this event is Austin Dillon. He's in the race today and looking to become the first person in the 21st Century to win this race back to back. This feat hasn't been accomplished since I was in high school and Sterling Marlin in the Kodak #4 got it done in 1994 and '95.

It's 81 degrees and Sunny in Daytona Beach with no rain expected.

Darrell Waltrip mentions the race being a sellout. Darrell Waltrip doesn't mention Daytona downsizing its seat total to make sellouts a little more possible again.

I started going to races back in the early 1990’s. I was a Tony Stewart fan until he retired. Today I would like to see Chase Elliott win his first Daytona 500. I really like him as a person and as a racer. Unfortunately, sometimes his pit crew has a lot to be desired.
