Kerrigan, Trent, and Norman for draft picks or younger talent? If this is not the time when does that time come or do they stay until retirement? Does this team hold on to these guys for one more year in order to get lesser draft picks that can be used to assure that they are in draft position to get their QB of the future?

If we traded Trent, Ryan and Josh it would give us enough cap space to cut Alex and still have around $32M in cap space to work with.

Aren't there relatively significant cap hits when trading players though? Are they just outweighed by the savings of not paying the salaries?

Also realistically what would be the game plan if we dump them all plus Smith and have 32 mil in cap space? Carry it over for a year or two?

There aren't many young FAs that fit our timeline that I can see. Maybe Landon Collins or Clowney but those may not reach FA and scream expensive contracts.

Yes, but we still eat any remaining signing bonus money at the time of the trade. The only advantage of the trade for the team is, we get compensation. the player it means, they still get paid and dont have to hit the FA market.

But I highly doubt these guys are in the to do Bruce any favors as they would probably make more in FA than getting traded.

Same basic cap hits as cutting them. We would have significant savings by trading them to our cap.

I would put it all in year one of the cut so we can start fresh.

FA is what it is. The biggest point is the availability of funds when we are in a position to compete.

We don't. We are fans. We have opinions, it is up to the personnel guys. You trust ours?

30 is the new old in the NFL. Really it isn't the age it is the contract. Once players like Trent, Kerrigan, Norman, Reed start making a lot of money and hit near 30 it is time to do a cost vs. production analysis. If I were going to rank just those 4 guys I would do it this order:

1. Kerrigan - back to back 13 sack seasons no games missed
2. Trent - best player of the 4, seems like his body is starting to break down
3. Norman - so-s0 player for way too much money
4. Reed - dynamic player for Cousin's first two years, too injured in Cousin's last year … production way down this year. QB issues? Actually Davis also suffered from the loss of Cousin's.

Redskins released to WRs a couple of years back. Too soon? Too late? I know Terrell Pryor and Paul Richardson didn't make me forget them.

The thing that always gets me about these things is what benefit are we getting for the trade? Mid round draft picks are a step down in my opinion.

Getting rid of PG and DJax just made us weaker not better
