Early Entrants to NFL

I'm more interested in what they do when they're forced out of the pocket and have to run. 40 yard times mean nothing to me.

Murphy is gone, he is a top 15 pick and depending on how the draft lays out he could end up top ten. Biggest question with UW is what does their pro day look like with all 4 secondary starters about to get drafted. Jones went from an early to mid first round to 2nd because of his pro day injury.

If you watch him move around in the pocket, yeah, I'd definitely say he's quick compared to many other QBs. He also has the strength to shrug off tackles. I seriously have no idea where this slant of yours is coming from.

He has more than enough pocket mobility to succeed in the NFL, especially given his other high-end QB traits.

I really think this POV comes from OSU having fast QBs of late. Braxton was the fastest player on the team at one point I believe. Pryor was another one that didn't look as fast as he really was because he was just a tall dude with a big stride.

About 2/3 of the top QBs in the NFL right now are OK runners (around 4.75-4.85 that can scramble for some yards, but not really run away from anyone). The rest are split between slow dudes and faster dudes. While there definitely are more fast QBs in the league now, the don't necessarily occupy the top of the league. In the NFL you need some mobility (not speed or quickness), and an accurate, above average arm strength (a cannon is good, but not necessary).

I think it's safe to say we both have watched our fair share of football. I've seen enough of him moving around to realize he's athletic enough to move around the pocket. He's not a running QB, but neither are many QBs in the NFL today that succeed. Physical strength is improved in the pros, but you can't teach accuracy, touch, poise, or arm strength, and he has all of those. Despite not being a runner, and dealing with a mediocre offensive line, he was sacked only 20 times this year (t-66th most in the nation) with the 2nd most pass attempts.

Mobility is indeed important. When Haskins runs to the sidelines, he usually is finished. He either gets caught or fails to throw the ball away. He can learn to throw the ball away. But I question whether or not he's quick enough to avoid a lot of sacks.

OK, good points. Yes the line was mediocre. It was the major weakness of the team this year. The receivers were one of the best groups that OSU has had in awhile. Paris Campbell improved greatly. Haskins needs to go to a decent team with a good o-line to succeed. That makes the Giants not the best fit, though Manning would certainly start the season as the starter.

I certainly wish him the best of luck. Seems like a real good person.

I think the Giants' OL isn't far off from being where it needs to be. Nate Solder had a bad first half of the year but rebounded in the 2nd half and looked great - 1 sack, 13 pressures in the final 8 games. Hernandez looks like a stud at OG, and Halapio was at least above average at C. I'm sure they'll be addressing it in FA/draft. They've got studs at WR, RB, and TE, so it could potentially be a great spot for him, though you're right about him needing to sit for at least the first half of the year. I'm not ready to call him the next great QB, though I think his potential is sky high with his size/skill combination.

Harrison (confirmed), Fuller, Jordon staying. Hill and Arnette leaving.

Harrison is a huge stay considering how bad our LB core has been. Fuller staying would also be very nice.

Hope Arnette decides to comeback but CB's get replaced every year anyway and they have a ton of depth.

Wouldn't be that upset about Arnette leaving. He's not a bad CB but I think he's topped out. I'm excited to see what guys like Sevyn Banks and Tyreke Johnson have to offer, along with obvious Shaun Wade and Jeffrey Okudah in expanded roles.

They've already idiotically granted next year to Jameis, so you're right there. It wouldn't be surprising to see a team like Jacksonville or Denver try and jump up to grab him. Both are extremely desperate for a QB. I said yesterday it wouldn't surprise me to see Dalton sent packing, and Denver makes sense, but Jacksonville has nothing going for them.
