Only 2 Top 10 teams mentioned, Ohio St and Wash St #'s 8 & 9 Passing yards seem to have some minor correlation to winning.

Moral: get balanced, play defense and forget about having superstars

Also, top teams have more than 1 WR or RB splitting touches. Hard to run up stat when you get 6 targets or 12 carries per game.

Yeah we got like 3 RB's splitting touches. They all do well on the yards per carry, 6.8, 5.9 and the goal line guy has the lowest with 4.8, but the most yards is just shy of 600.

Does having 2000+ passing yards, 2000+ rushing yards and the #1 defense work?

Bama could probably split carries with 5 or 6 RBs and see little to no drop off. You guys have SOOOO much depth it is sickening.

Depth may end up being the difference if you 2 play.
Michigan has a ways to go to get into Bama’s class. Harbaugh’s first recruiting class are only redshirt sophomores/juniors, as he didn’t get a first recruiting class year 1, as he was hired 3 weeks before national signing day.

Also, it’d be next to impossible for UM to ever get the depth Bama does, as they bring in much better recruiting classes. Unless the state of Michigan gets a surge in talent at the HS level, UM will not be finishing with #1 recruiting classes.

True. I was speaking of a possible matchup in the CFP.

Would Washington St be 9-1 without Minshew?

Also Washington St has improved every year with Leech
because of their defense.

Since 2015 their defense has gotten better...

2015 27.7 ppg

2016 26.4 ppg

2017 25.8 ppg

2018 22.3 ppg (current)

Bama throws it all the time now. Would Minshew's numbers be
worse with those receivers that Bama has? I doubt it.

I'll agree to a point about statistics...but let's not overdo it.

If Minshew was the QB at Bama, right now, Bama would still be
10-0 and Minshew would still be a passing leader.

Ain't saying it hasn't happened, but when was the last time the passing yardage leader was on the CFP Champion team?

It's not the receivers, etc... it's the playing time at Bama. Tua has only played in one 4th quarter. He's played the equivalent of 8 games in 10, if that much.

Only played 1 4Q, because Bama didn’t want to be there

I think what you'll find in terms of the individual stat leaders is that teams often rely FAR too much on them to win. The reason they often don't win championships is because you get to a certain level, and the best teams are able to target and stop that one player; unless you have just and incredible talent (Vince Young) who can will the team to a win. And you can see it in those stats. But that's just THOSE stats. There are some that indicate how good a team is, especially at QB if you look at passer rating:

1: Kyle Murray OU 9-1
2: Tua Tagovialoa Al 10-0
3: Will Grier WVU 8-1
4: Ian Book ND 10-0
5: Jake Fromm UG 9-1

No argument from me. I was making my comment as far as primary stats go. You have to get to at least the secondary level if not farther to find where championships are won.

I think that's especially true with the WR/RB positions. Those stat leaders are often G5 teams that run up the score on crappy schools through a 9 game weak conference schedule.

When teams play the same number of games, compiler stats don't exist.

sure they do. Minshew leads FBS in passing yards, but he's thrown 135 more pass attempts than the guy with the 2nd most. Despite the yards, he has a mere 7.4 yards per attempt (66th in NCAA). He ranks 37th among QBs in passer rating and Wazzu is 37th in passing S&P+.

not all offenses throw/run equally.
