Carmello has asked to be traded to Cleveland or Houston

Don't see Cleveland pulling the trigger. Lebron knows that Melo doesn't give them much more than Love does in his current capacity.

Houston might not do that trade either. What kind of leverage do the Knicks have with a disgruntled aging player?

Extremely difficult to trade for Melo because of the salaries. Houston would likely be more able to, but I can't see him making Either team substantially better given what they would have to give up.

I don't think Cleveland could get there without giving either TT or JR. While JR + Shumpert sounds nice in theory, it only makes them weaker defensively.

Love for Melo would be a terrible deal. I am thinking role players for Melo. Not even sure that is worth it.

I don't. As much of a non-factor Love was, the bench for Cleveland was nearly non-existent as well. Trading off what little depth they had for Melo who's ball dominant and putting him alongside two other ball dominant players in Irving and Lebron is just not a good fit.

Could be right, but anyone that Cleveland loses outside of the Big 2, really isnt a hit at all to that roster

Replacing the spare parts, or "depth" on that Cleveland roster, is actually a good thing, i think they need to do so anyway

I agree to a certain extent. At least with Love though you're getting much more value in the long term of having an asset. Love will be 29 at the start of the season, Melo just turned 33 and is on the downside of his career. Love can be a valuable chip in trade talks later on, don't think Melo carries the same weight.

This is a nice trade for the Clippers. I'm not sure what Houston is doing but Paul/Harden is not going to get it done. They need at least another piece to compete with Golden State, possibly two.

Thats a good point in terms of Trade Value........Just thinking back to the Finals, and how desperate the Cavs were for that 3rd scorer, it is still the one and only thing Mello can do

Role players for Melo -- then swing Love for better role players.

The only way this works is if they only play together for like 12-15mpg and they have one of these guys on the court at all times functioning as the primary PG....when both are on court.....Harden is the SG.

Dude, Doc sucks. He let his son, who sucks, stay on the clippers. He got lucky with the celtics getting a big three when no others were formed. He's a shitty coach that got lucky. If he were worth anything, the clippers would've made a finals by now.

He definitely sucks as a GM. As a coach, he's not bad. There are and have been worse coaches (the Lakers have had about 3 worse coaches between Phil leaving and hiring Luke). But he's not as good as he gets credit for because of that title in Boston.

As for the Clippers making a finals by now. There have been 2 things that have prevented that.

One...teams like the Spurs and Warriors have been better.

Two...Clippers gonna Clippers.

I don't buy that report about the sticking point for a second. That's cover from Clippers sources to make it look like they were being firm with CP3 and then found a way to get something for him when in reality, CP3 forced their hand and got what he wanted. Think about it. So they wanted to give him 4 years but not 5? Is a 5th year really a deal breaker? There's is next to zero difference between paying close to 40 mil to a 36 year old than it is to paying close to 40 mil to a 37 year old. You're still paying a fuckton of cash to an old player past his prime.

Much like with Lebron's free agency endeavors, this was a superstar calling his own shots in free agency. The teams were just along for the ride

You may be right. I just heard what was reported and of course the Clippers want to try to look as good as possible.

On the other hand, we've seen that 5th year be pretty important to players, especially when they get older and we've seen teams not want to give that 5th year. You may still be paying a fuck ton of cash to an older guy, but you also are paying that cash for one year less.

That can be important considering that when most of these guys get old, they get old overnight. As Lakers fans, we saw Steve Nash have an all star caliber year the season before he came to the Lakers. The Lakers get him and his limbs all fell off.

In CP3's case, both sides also know that over the past 3 years, he's only played in about a 2/3 of the Clippers games. This would also make that 5th year important to him while making the Clippers more reluctant to give it.

I think Cleveland would do it if the Knicks end up buying out Melo. I don't see that happening unless Melo was just sticking around to troll Phil.

Unless they manage to get themselves back in the PG-13 sweepstakes, there really doesn't seem to be much else they can do to try and improve the team.

I could see Melo leaving now. I think he stuck around solely to stick it to Phil as well, just to spite him.

I think theres truth to that, and I cant blame him, Ive never seen an executive in any sport attempt to humiliate publicly their only star

It happens.

"Two months later Phillies senior adviser Dallas Green, Bowa's former manager and a key proponent of his hiring, tacked on his own criticism of Rolen, saying, "Scotty is satisfied with being a so-so player.... I think he can be greater, but his personality won't let him." Green and Bowa are icons in Philadelphia. Rolen soon found himself being booed regularly."

Keep Rolen? Amid serious doubts about how long he'll be playing for the Phillies, hard-charging third baseman Scott Rolen continues to give his all for the team

I agree. As I've said before, when he was a coach, Phil was a master at knowing when and how to criticize/send a message to a player publicly and he nearly always got the desired result.

However, what he didn't seem to grasp is that a GM is not a coach and there really isn't a right time for a GM to publicly criticize a player.
