Man this would be CLASSIC bengal. Re-up your idiot head coach, while the brightest star goes to a division rival.

This isn't exactly a win for Mike Zimmer or for Cleveland. I like Zimmer a lot and think he deserves a shot, but there are more than a few coordinators that don't find success as an NFL coach. Zimmer seems to have a great relationship with his players so I think he would get a team to play hard - I just wonder how well he would do with getting along with the other coaches. He seems to be a 'my way or the highway' type of guy and Cleveland really needs someone to fix that offense (meaning they probably need some experience on that side of the ball).

I think that's what might make it a good fit. They already have good pieces in place on defense, so I think he can make their defense an even bigger strength working with the DC. The offense is what needs a major upgrade, and if he can hire someone with experience for OC, he can help stay out of the OC's way, but at the same time call the game how he wants.

As much as it would suck for the Bengals, I'd be happy to see Zimmer get the job. He deserves it. And I think you're right, the players will play hard for him.

Offense? how hard is it to hand the ball off to Trent Richardson 50 times a game?

The Browns have some good building blocks in the offense. They need a new QB, or they need to let a QB grow and learn, one or the other. Gordon and Little aren't too bad at WR, but they need more depth so they can forget about using Cribbs at WR, he's a situational RB and a return guy.

I can see it now...

Zimmer HC of Cleveland, he gets some flunky to be his DC who will do his bidding, while hiring Norv Turner to be the OC and let him have free reigns on that side of the ball.

Cincinnati = FUBAR'd at that point in the division.

I don't think they hire him, which will be good for us,obviously.

there's so much talk about hiring an O specialist for HC. The new trend I guess.

he probably deserves a shot though

Ugh, Zim is probably responsible for 3+ wins a season. I wish the dude was the HC here. I guess if he leaves Marv can stop freeriding on the yield of Zimmer's labor.

According to the link I posted Zimmer and Wisenhunt are the 2 finalists.

Marv in the last year of his contract. If they don't extend/retain him again I'd say Zim is a shoe in for HC

Right. So this is the last year on his contract. At some point this coming year the Bengals will have to re-up with Lewis or go a different direction. I know more than likely they'll go with their 'continuity' plan and keep Marv, but if they did want to make a change Zim is the obvious choice.

Next season is the 2013 season. The first line of that sentence says he is signed through the 2014 season (which ends in 2015). When he signed the two year extension, he was heading into his final year - That effectively gave him a three year deal.
