According to the New York Daily News, the Yankees are discussing a deal that would bring them third baseman David Freese from the Cardinals. Freese had a disappointing season in St. Louis, batting .262 with nine home runs and 60 RBI.
================================

Not sure the Yankees are willing to give up. Freese helped STL win a World Series, but his production slipped the past couple years. Hopefully Wong will step up to move Carpenter to 3B.

I think Cards end up keeping Freese, using him at 3B vs LHP with Carp at 2B. RHP will see Carp at 3B and Wong at 2B. Freese could get work at 1B and off the bench a PH. I think that's how we use him next yr. Can,t imagine what NYY would offer for him.

Freese won't see time at 1B, the Cards already have 2 of those. The dude can't hit and is mediocre defensively. They want to shed his salary (not worth around 4M in arb), go young and cheap at certain positions, and add a splash type of bat. I've been saying since ST that 2013 was his last season in STL and dear God I hope I'm right.

Well, Beltran is probably gone! which should make Craig the everyday RF, so Adams would need someone backing him up (Freese). Freese makes most of his errors throwing the ball from 3b. Freese might be more suited for 1B in the long term. I agree though that Freese playing time is probably reduced in 2014 because he no longer will be a starter.

Craig could also back up Adams by having another OF on the roster. With Craig's defense and knee history I wouldn't be shocked to see him never play much RF. Adams may not be on the roster next year still.

My point is if Freese is at 1B then either Adams or Craig is on the bench. I don't see the Cards moving in that direction.

Miami Marlins are also in conversations regarding the services of David Freese.

I never thought he was a real option anyway, and I guarantee you Kozma won't start on April 1.

Straight on the twitter of Ken Rosenthal: "Sources: #STLCards, #Angels have discussed a trade that would send 3B David Freese to Anaheim."

Something that would cost STL no draft picks or players is to pursue Drew and Elsbury from Boston. Cardinals have the money with what is coming off the books. There is even money coming from the television deals, about 20 mill. BUT, I am not sure Elsbury is worth 20 mil/yr. He has had basically 2 good years with his injury history. If STL can get Elsbury for 5 yrs 15 per...do it..Boras is going to pump up Elsbury. SS and CF could be answered with this
