Still glad the Nats got Span instead of getting into a bidding war for Upton. That is money that will be needed down the line if the richest owners in baseball decide they want to keep the staff together long term.

The Lerners are loaded but I don't know how willing to spend they will be down the line on potential ginormous contracts.

Oh please. He "didn't play well" (and that's a stretch, seeing as he had 40+ WAR in twelve seasons with the Dodgers/Mariners). Beltre even had 21.2 WAR in five seasons in Seattle. Beltre's batting stats were hurt by the ballparks he played in. His career road OPS is 46 points higher than his home OPS, and that's with him playing in Fenway/Arlington over the last four years. He has a career OPS of .738 at Dodger Stadium and .720 at Safeco. .952 at Arlington and .822 at Fenway.

And was 2009 not a contract year? Because it wasn't a very good year for Beltre (it was one of his worst, offensively at least).

Am i the only one that doesnt understand WAR? All i know is beltre never lived up to his contract while in seattle.

I think the reason AGon is declining offensively (for his standards) is because Dodger Stadium isn't exactly friendly to hitters. He had some good seasons in SD then he went to Boston and his offense exploded (thanks to hitter friendly Fenway Park and overall hitter friendly parks in the whole AL East).
In Gonzalez's last three years in San Diego he hit .285/.387/.523/.910 averaging 36 HRs and 106 RBI per season. In his 1 and 3/4 seasons in Boston he hit .321/.382/.513/.895 averaging 24 HR per 162 and 116 RBI per 162.

That is not an offensive explosion. Considering the hitting environment at Fenway compared to Petco, he took a big step back while in Boston.

I wouldn't call it a "big step back". Take away his last half season in Boston and it is a step forward in my book. 213 hits, .338 batting average, 108 runs, .957 OPS, .548 slg. Those are almost all career highs or close to it. Obviously his last half season brings everything down if you average it. I guess what I meant to say is his first season in Boston was his career year.

I disagree. His first season in Boston wasn't a career year. He had better offensive seasons before that while playing in a major pitchers park.
