Winter Storm Gorgon, give me fair warning, please

Since most of you live west of me, Snow Storm Gorgon has us in its target sites. I would like to know if I need to worry about it.

Most of you are probably south of it though.

My family and I are off to renew our passports today. That means we cannot travel outside of the country until we get them back.

Puerto Rico is what my wife and I are discussing until we get the passports back.

9 times out of 10 when they name these storms they end up amounting to squat it seems like.

They name every storm any more. When they started this shit a couple years ago they said they were only going to name the big ones. They went through the entire alphabet both years now. They now justify naming all of them on the pretense that 1" of snow can cause slick roads, therefore they impact travel and are dangerous.

Only TWC does it (for drama ratings). The NWS doesn't even recognize it.

In theory there are only about 3-4 major winter storms nationally in a season. Major being 10+" in a highly populated area.

That being said, we are expecting an inch or less in Omaha.

3-6" is expected in a swath from NW to SE crossing Des Moines.

We can still see the grass through the snow that we've had. Up until about a week ago, our moisture this season has been in the form of prolonged rains.

It also warms up faster without snow cover.

Around here the moisture is usually bled out of those Pacific systems by the time they cross the mountains.

If we get big storms it's because they tapped into gulf moisture.
