What happens if a freshman is by far the greatest player in college football? Should he not be awarded the Heisman because he could end up like Johnny Manziel and Jameis Winston?

What happens if some freshman is head and shoulders above everyone else and off the field is similar to someone like AJ McCarron? You can't go back and award him a Heisman, and if he's only the best player his freshman year than someone who was the best player in college football turns out never winning the Heisman.

Freshmen can win it if they are the greatest player, sure. But Winston's off the field issues were coming up well before he was even considered for the Heisman. Same with Manziel.
