All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis injured his right wrist early in the 49ers’ practice Wednesday and did not participate in the ensuing team drills.

Coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke individually checked on Willis, who remained on the field and watched practice with his wrist heavily wrapped, presumably with ice.

Trainers examined Willis’ wrist during a one-on-one blocking drills between linebackers and running backs.

Michael Wilhoite, a second-year veteran, replaced Willis on the first-team unit during early red-zone drills. Lining up next to Wilhoite was NaVorro Bowman, who missed Tuesday’s session with an apparent groin strain.

Willis has made the Pro Bowl each of his six seasons, and made the Associated Press’ First Team All-Pro for a fifth time last season as the 49ers reached Super Bowl XLVII.

Outside linebacker Aldon Smith, who had a franchise record 19 ½ sacks last season, was not practicing Wednesday for the first time this training camp. Smith came out to watch practice in shorts and showed no visible signs of injury, although he had labrum surgery this offseason.

Others not practicing were wide receivers A.J. Jenkins, Kyle Williams and Kassim Osgood, all of whom are battling recent leg injuries. Center Jonathan Goodwin was not at practice for a second straight day, although he was at the facility and his health status is unknown.

I'll never forgoet that time that Willis, with a huge cast on his hand, ran down a Cardinal wide receiver and saved a touchdown and the kicker then missed the FG try and the 49ers won their second game against 14 losses.

but, uhm, the 49ers have won at least 5 games since 2007?

If we're doing revisionist history, my favorite memory is when Willis had a cast on his hand and he concussed Smith leading to Kap's arrival.

That's my worst memory; I hate friendly fire. I'd like to have an enemy to be mad at or thank. What a terrible name - friendly fire, there's nothing friendly about it. ;)

Remember when Lee Woodall took out Drew Bledsoe opening the door for Dan Marino to lead the Patriots' dynasty in the 21st century?

Or when JJ Stokes caught 20 passes at Rice's last home game with the Niners?

What about when Charlie Garner missed the block that led to Steve Stenstrom's concussion that ended his career? At least it opened the door for Gio Carmazzi to take over.

It was too bad Carmazzi's foot fell off, because he looked really good breaking Jeff George's rookie passing records in 2017.

Yeah, to all of those, I'd prefer the "enemy" to do it, not friendly fire or purposeful causation of injury that would please Machiavelli. ;)

Man, 2007 is so long ago that it does seem like 2004. Still, even my warped memory knows Patrick Willis hasn't been here that long.

Slight fracture, should be back for the regular season (like he would miss anytime anyways)

This sucks...but it gives the coaches a look at some younger LB's to determine who's the best back up to stack behind the beast in the regular season.

Didn't see this thread before posting in the TC thread. As long as he back by week 1 should be fine. He doesn't need a full TC

I thought it was the season where they only won two games and both were against the Cardinals?

I don't know where our 2 victories were in 2004, but Patrick Willis wasn't even on the team for any of our 2 win seasons (once since 1979). That's 9 seasons ago, man. NINE. :) Your memory... just kidding. We all lose it sometimes. The trouble with memory is that you forget where you put it sometimes.

49ers said it was minor and that Pat won't miss anytime or camp. He will play first preseason game
