I'm going to say 'no' in terms of what they used to be.

Back in the day it was just having players who were bigger, stronger and faster than 90% of the players that Nebraska faced then lining up and knocking them down. The only school doing that right now really is Alabama.

I'm not saying Nebraska will never win the national championship again but the days of having vastly superior talent and just running simple stuff to have massive advantages over the majority of your conference is over.

Tell that to our fans..they're convinced we should be able to just run over everybody, and the reason we aren't is because we aren't "committing to it" enough.

Well, when I look at NFL draft prospects and oline then Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio St and Iowa are first schools that come to mind. Realistically if Nebraska wants to take over the Big 10 then they'll have to start looking to different directions.

Oh I agree we need to be better up front. We had 2-3 walk ons that either started or got significant time this year. I'm saying that despite that, our fans want us to just pound the ball at other teams, which proves to be hard because of the aforementioned lack of talent on the OL.

All it takes is the right coach, and a continued commitment from the AD, university president, and any other governing body.

That and money from boosters to pay the salary of said coach.

Don't forget, many Blue Blood programs (of which Nebraska is one) have had their dark days.

I think most P5 schools could be a contender any year with the right coach. When the Corn hired Riley I said "way to swing for the fences". Not sure why a school that has all the things @Brasky mentions is hiring a middle of the road guy from Oregano St?

Riley is the 7th highest paid coach in the conference and 45th nationally. Makes no sense. If Nebraska insists on saying they are the upper crust of CFB, act like it and go get you a big name coach.

The Big 8 was setup for Nebraska to succeed. Without the old rules from the Big 8, NU's program is destroyed forever....

Ok, so why did Oklahoma win it so often?

I posted this in another thread too....

If OU wins Saturday,

OU= 10 Big 12 CHAMPIONSHIPS

TEXAS, TXTECH, OKIE ST, IOWA ST, BAYLOR, KU, KSU, WV, TCU= 9 BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Sooners had far more Big 8 titles than anyone else also.

Contend for a conference championship or a natty? I only think a handful of P5s can make a run for a natty on a somewhat regular basis. Baylor and TCU gave it a whirl in '14 but that was really a little misleading. Oregon had a run for a while. But, I just can't see schools like Oregon State, Wazzou, K-State, Purdue, NC State, etc ever really competing for a natty with any frequency.
