Why can't we have a good secondary?

We recruit defensive backs right? Why is the entire secondary made up of former running backs and receivers? Surely an actual DB recruit could make a significant contribution to the secondary? We haven't had a good secondary since 2002. Was Shane Walton the last shut down corner we had?

Talk about bringing back memories. Remember when we had Walton and Vontez Duff? Those were some legit defenses.

There is your answer. We dont give extra to these kids. ND thinks coming to ND and getting an ND education is better then getting 500 dollars a week or what ever amount it is. Lets ask Meyer and Pete how much top players get.

I think that we will have a good defensive secondary as soon as we get a good pass rush in place. If we can get some legit pressure on Bell, the D backs will have a chance to make plays. If we don't get pressure on him, it could be a long night for them. I think the rush shows up this week.

Hell ... I just hope we can stop Belldozer from doing his thing. If I were OU ... I'd run Bell ... ALOT ... thru our flimsy LBs.

this exactly. Last year we were able to cover up our bad secondary with great pressure.....this year not so much.

Better pressure would help but actually recruiting legit Corners are safeties wouldn't hurt either, like Redfield for instance.
