One of these years in the next 50 years we're going to go all 1969
I'm gonna tell you the same thing I tell broads when they start talking about 69; I prefer the 68, that's where you suck my dick and I owe you one.

I'll give it to Oregon, they're finally recruiting like a national power and not a finesse team that can only beat up on the Pac12. They're building a legit team, and they're bringing in some elite players. They've cleaned up on the west coast in recruiting, and Cristobal seems to have them moving in the right direction. 2020 is probably premature, but I could easily say they're a legit contender in 2021 barring some catastrophic events.
As long as the Pac 12 doesn't offer significant resistance to them, I could see Oregon making it to the CFP. Similar to how Clem in the ACC, OU in the Big 12 and tOSU in the B1G. None of them have had any consistent and significant threats to their conference reigns lately. Unless the SEC gets two spots again, someone has to occupy the other three CFP spots.

Depending on how they replace Herbert, I think Oregon is going to be right there. They've recruited incredibly well recently, and they return a lot from last year's Rose Bowl winning team.

Talent gap between them and the other 3 is huge. They could be this year's OU, where the reward for making the playoff is getting smoked in the first round.

True. But IMHO teams need to elbow their way ahead of several of those seven SEC schools in order to make a recruiting "splash"...for lack of a better term.
They've taken a big turn in recruiting already, IMO. They've brought in some very elite players over the last couple of classes and they're gaining momentum. It's why I said 2020 might be premature, but I think 2021 is going to be a really good year for them. I can't wait until they come to Columbus to start that season.

I think it depends on who they play. With Clemson, if they lose 1 game, they're all but out of it. Oregon can get in at 12-1 though. I think Bama, Clemson, and OSU are the top 3 teams this year, but that 4th spot is up for grabs.

I guess I misunderstood the thread. Oregon has a shot to make the CFP in 2020...they do not have a shot at winning the CFP in 2020.

Sure, you're probably right. It would probably take a perfect storm. 2021, though, I think they have a great shot.

Potentially, we'll see how the new pieces come together. Oregon does have the benefit of a weak division, with Cal supplanting UW as the primary competition for the Ducks.

The reward is being able to buy a t-shirt that says CFP but never really wanting to wear it.

Since 1996 every team that has won an undisputed national title except for Oklahoma in 2000 has had at least two top ten national recruiting classes in the four years before a title. So while signing a top ten recruiting class doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to win a national title — indeed, there are plenty of teams that don’t — for 23 of the past 24 years, you can’t win a title without at least two top ten recruiting classes.

Well, the past 24 years of recruiting data suggests your national champion will be one of these 13 teams:

4 top ten classes: Alabama, Georgia

3 top ten classes: Ohio State, LSU, Clemson, Oklahoma, Texas

2 top ten classes: Auburn, Michigan, USC, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Florida

Who Can Win a National Title In 2020?

100% agree! Way too much blame put on the coaches.

That still leaves one more team in the playoffs. We still have something to look forward to.
Yes, you too can be the sacrificial lamb.

I feel like he's using the word "should" a bit liberally.

I don't know, I feel like I should be dating Shakira too, it's not gonna happen either, but it should. Those hips don't lie and they were speaking directly to me.
