Hosmer could end up with someone like the Yankees. Not sure where Myers would end up.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com is reporting that the Padres are "heavily shopping" Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers.

The primary goal will be to shed salary, with the possibility of having to attach a prospect to reach a deal. Hosmer has $59 million over four years left on his current contract with a limited no-trade clause, while Myers is owed $20 million this season with a club option for 2023. San Diego will have an awfully tough time trying to move Hosmer given his situation, but there may be several landing spots for Myers.

i for one am shocked that the mega contract for a 1B with a career 111 OPS+ is not working out

oel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Adam Ottavino has agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract with the Mets.

The offer comes with $1 million in incentive bonuses. Ottavino posted a 4.21 ERA and 3.96 FIP out of the Red Sox bullpen last season over 62 frames with a 10.31 K/9. The right-hander averaged 19 inches of break on his slider in 2021, which is 8.1 inches more than sliders at a similar velocity and the second-highest in MLB. Left-handed hitters have been an issue for Ottavino, but he is an effective weapon against righties.

I unbiasly (seriously…. And that IS a word, damn it!) declared both those signings stupid when they happened.

I wouldn’t be super shocked if Myers ends up with San Fran. But the Pads would need to sweeten the deal with at least a mid-level prospect, and I seriously doubt the Pads would do that.

Surprised you that it turned out badly, did it?

nope. I was glad we got away from that bidding war

His value was in leadership, not $20M production

At least the Padres were smart enough to frontload it. and make him easier to trade

1st signing

Cardinals signed RHP Drew VerHagen to a two-year, $5.5 million contract.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com was first to report the deal and it was made official by the club shortly after. VerHagen, 31, posted a 5.11 ERA and 156/75 K/BB ratio over 199 innings for the Tigers from 2014-19 while being used mostly as a reliever. He pitched in Japan the last two years with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, holding a 3.49 ERA and 216/62 K/BB ratio across 208 2/3 frames. The Cards are saying that he will compete for a job in the rotation, but ultimately he's probably ticketed for a bullpen role.
He had a good month about seven years ago.

Not a huge fan of Sanchez behind the plate, and rumor has it that the Twins are looking to flip him. Not sure where he'll end up.
I do like Urshela at 3B in Minneapolis. This move opens SS up for either Lewis or Martin to win. Either of those guys are acceptable to me.
And, by the way, Rortvedt could be one of the best pure physical specimens in the game. He is a very strong young man.

Early reports are saying Atlanta literally gave up the farm. They already won last year and this year they'll have Olson and Acuna back. They're gonna be nasty

Gave up two nice prospects, but at positions of depth. I’m very happy with the deal. Best case we could have hoped for to replace Freddie
