It's weird with Kareem. He was definitely aloof and could be pretty short with the media.

The old Showtime Lakers all seem to absolutely love the guy. But even then, it took Magic to bring him out of his shell.

Pretty introverted...but had bit parts in a couple of movies?

Dude's something of an enigma to say the least.

My guess is that the image repair is him looking back on his life and realizing he made some mistakes and pissed some people off.
Yep.

That's why he couldn't get a Coaching job.

He was just a different kind of Dude and not the typical juice head athlete.

I would have preferred him not to do dancing with the Stars.

That was worse than that diving show he did.

But, it was cool to see him step way out of his comfort zone.

Ps. Magic can bring out the inner kid in anyone.

I used to tell that way about Shaq too. But, his bully tactics on TNT makes me give him the side eye every now and then.

I lost a lot of respect for him when he did that shit. I mean, it's not good enough that most people, including all time great former players consider you the GOAT. Even guys who are right there with you in that discussion.

You have to drag out decades old bullshit and try to embarrass people at a ceremony to celebrate how great you were?

Yeah it was terrible. Not sure if I can remember another speech like that.

Do you know what this is all about? Go back to comment # 577. desertrat said KAJ was a better scorer than MJ. I disagreed.

And I think he was a better scorer than MJ. He spent most of his career with the Lakers who had Magic, Worthy, Scott, as well as several others who got their fair of shots.

MJ pretty much only had Pippen to share the scoring load with. That's why MJ averaged more ppg over his career. And it was just 6ppg.

Well, MJ always had to top everyone at everything. He certainly got himself the top "cringe worthy" speech of all time. lol

MJ averaged just under 23 FGA's, KAJ averaged a hair over 18.

It was so uncomfortable to watch...lol

That Dude is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME.

But, he's also a textbook megalomaniac.

Looking forward to see how his son does in college. Unfair to compare him to Shaq, but it's inevitable. Kid is nowhere close to his dad in size.

When KAJ was with the Bucks he averaged 35 pts on 25 shots.

That was his highest scoring year of his career when he had to do it all.

I'll take Jordan.

kareem was a better scorer, rebounder, and defensive player than jordan. kareem was past his prime most of the years he played with magic. the lakers also played better competition than the bulls, and didn't get near the preferential treatment from the refs as the bulls did. kareem was also able to win championships with two different organizations.

but i'll agree team accomplishments are not all that matters, because basketball is a team sport not an individual sport. otherwise bill russell is easily the goat.

I agree he was a better scorer but he was also just 28 when he went to the Lakers.

Not close to being past his prime most of the time with Magic. He averaged 23.4ppg at 38. His final 3 seasons were when he declined quickly.

It's kind of an apples to oranges debate, imo.

When talking about being a scorer, if you're talking about numbers of ways to score. MJ was the better scorer because he could score in more different ways than Kareem. So, as far as being a pure scorer. That nod goes to MJ.

If you're talking about most unstoppable scorer, that probably goes to Kareem (not that MJ could be stopped, only slowed) because he had the most unstoppable shot ever.

Fair points. I almost went that route.

@DJ

One thing I really like about Shaq is the fact that he knows his son can't be him and has worked hard on getting him to learn the fundamentals.

Foot work, shooting....He had him model his game after Kevin McHale.

I'll take Jordan.

MJ averaged a career-high 37.1ppg on 27.8 FGA's in 1986-1987.

The Bulls finished 40-42.

We're both Laker fans.....unlikely to happen.

It's not like he's @Shaqdaddy11 or @True Lakers Fan.

Plus he tried my sub shop.

You are correct.

Concede.

Kareem could have scored more on the Lakers and that's scary. They had a ton of other good players on that team that could also score.
