As it pertains to the playoff .

I've seen a lot of people state " you can't lose by 29 to 6-6 Purdue and make the playoff"

Conversely I don't remember anyone stating that Clemson should not have gotten in last year despite losing by 3 to a 4-8 team .

So I'm assuming the answer lies in between but I'm curious .

What do you personally see as a disqualifying loss?

Is losing by 2 to a 2-10 team ok? 21 to a 8-4 team? 31 to a 10-2 team? 17 to a 5-7 team?

Let's hear what you think and why

I’m not saying that they should be disqualified but if you are comparing a team that lost a neutral site game by 3 against a ranked team vs losing to a 6-6 team by 29, I think that’s a tough argument to make that the blowout should just be overlooked.

Any loss to Iowa should automatically disqualify you from the College Football Playoffs....

It’s more how you lose than who you lose to. A real top 4 team shouldn’t be losing by 29 to anyone.

Any loss by Ohio State.

Obviously.
I got a crazy idea, maybe don’t lose games to mediocre teams by 4+ touchdowns, and people would stop using these blowouts against you. It has nothing to do with who is losing the game but more how they are losing the game.

I got an eve crazier idea. Get a sense of humor. Try eBay. Lots of Michigan fans are selling theirs.

IMO, it all depends on which teams you are comparing. IMO, without a UGA victory, the final playoff spot will come down to Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Ohio State is the hotter team right now, but they have an AWFUL loss to Purdue. To compound that loss, it was by 3 TD's. They still ended the season by blowing out what was a highly ranked team (now we realize they were over-ranked). Still an impressive win to close out the regular season.

Oklahoma lost a close game to their rival. They also get a chance to play that rival in the B12 championship game.

It will be interesting to see whom the selection committee will choose, but whomever they choose, I don't think it's unfair to the team that didn't get chosen. Both lost a game, and if either team hadn't lost that game, there would be no argument about who deserves the last playoff spot.

Here's a scary thought... what if ND, Bama, Clemson, OSU, and UCF had all gone undefeated? The college football world would have imploded....

Why? Looks like a pretty clear 4 teams in that case, it’d be the least controversial of some not very controversial years so far.

Sorry, I left OU out of that. I was thinking 6 undefeated teams.

No 1 loss is disqualifying if you look good for the rest of the season. Had that loss happened, but OSU had a 24 point win over TCU and beaten Maryland/Nebraska by 20+, the discussion wouldn't be happening.

That's fair but also not what people are saying . Neither team ( OU or OSU ) has looked like a playoff team much of the year

Yes, losing by 29 to Purdue matters in any situation. Looking like horse shit against Nebraska and those other shitty teams sure doesn’t help though.

True but they could have just ran the ball and lost by 2 TD’s. 29 looks a lot worse but they were down by 14 with 4 minutes to go. Then a big play and a pick six makes it 4 TD’s. It is losing to a 6 win team but if you really watch the game the margin of victory argument is kinda stupid. Like I have said from the beginning, if it comes down to that I am perfectly fine with Ohio St getting left out but as we all know that’s not ALL the committee looks at. You could look at a number of different weaknesses, low points, etc. from both teams imo

Purdue was big, but the near miss from Maryland seemed to show that it was not a complete fluke game. I think OSU would be in if there were not other teams like Oklahoma, Georgia, maybe even UCF that have comparable or better looking seasons.

Why? It would be even clearer on who the top 4 teams are. UCF isn't one of them
