It's true. They're just pretty to look at. Although CY Young winners are usually strikeout pitchers. But an out is an out.

A ball put in play is less likely to be turned into an out. Not only that, but a ball in play, even if it's an out, can move a runner over/score a run.

Duh. But it's also most likely to be turned into an out anyway, possibly two or three while at the same time saving a pitchers pitch count.
