So I promised myself that after 10 years on ESPN I would stay away from other forums until pre-season at least. So I missed by a couple of weeks. Big deal. Already see a lot of familiar names.

So why did the ESPN boards close anyway?

I think it boiled down to 2 things. The first is the board had been completely taken over by trolls as they were having trouble regulating the board at all. If a person got banned all they had to do was create a whole new screen name and they were right back at it. There were people who had over 25 screen names and would take over whole boards using the different screen names.

The second and probably more important is they wanted to switch it up to be able to make some profit off the board. By switching everything over to require a facebook profile they were making money off of facebook. Don't these things always boil down to money?

It was all about the money. The day the boards shut down I got a mailer for an Insider subscription. Now that they couldn't ram it down my throat on the message boards they're now sending junk mail.

I'm wondering if the boards will be back once they see their internet traffic plummet.

I don't think they realize how many people went to their website just to use their forums. I would say 90% of the reason that I ever went to their website was for that very reason. They definitely just lost a huge group of people and my guess is when they figure that out and try to reestablish them they will find they have already burned too many bridges.

To be honest I wasn't too disappointed to see them shut down as they were being taken over by trolls and at least with this website some of that can be stopped or at least ignored compared to that of ESPN. They had a chance to make a great message board and yet chose to make it crap. Good luck to you ESPN.

This site was smart enough to create the Lounge, which basically herds all the political and off topic stuff to one board that can be ignored. The ignored list option is great too.

Very much loving the ignore list. At least on the Broncos board we have all agreed to completely ignore the 2 or 3 trolls that keep showing up and well they seem to be posting less and less as we don't respond.

Admit it. You check out the lounge every time you log in here.

First post registered 4 months ago but never made it back. Got side tacked by the mudncleats sight. The sight is like a self help group or men with mother issues. I hope this sight it's the same.
