Ziggy Hood led all Redskins D-linemen in snaps for fifth time this season. He recorded a solo and an assisted tackle, but the tackles came on back-to-back snaps in the fourth quarter. Minnesota gained 3 total yards on those plays.

Hood was the only defensive lineman and one of two players on the team to hit Keenum on Sunday. He did not record any other pressures.

Terrell McClain- After 12 tackles in his last two games combined, McClain disappeared against the Vikings on Sunday. He failed to record a single traditional snap or a pressure on his 34 snaps.

Stacy McGee- The former Raider started for the second straight week and for fifth time this year. He also played on season highs in snaps (34) and snap percentage (56%).

McGee posted new career highs in every traditional tackle statistic with 4 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles and 8 total tackles. The Vikings only gained 24 yards on his eight tackles (3-yard average), and four of them came within 2 yards of the line of scrimmage.

He was not much of a difference maker against the pass, though. All of his tackles came on running plays and he did not get any pressure on Case Keenum.

Anthony Lanier- Lanier was on the field for 22 snaps against the Vikings. This was his third straight game with a snap share above 35%; he had never played on more than 27% of the snaps prior to that. He did not make any tackles for the second straight week, but he was the only Skins’ D-lineman besides Hood with a pressure.

Brandon Banks- This was the first career game for Banks, who was signed from the practice squad on Saturday. He was in for 12 snaps and made a solo tackle on a 5-yard Latavius Murray run in the fourth quarter. He too failed to generate any pressure. Banks was waived by the team today.

Matt Ioannidis- The breakout sophomore missed his second game with a broken hand. He has a legitimate shot to return this week against the Saints, but you could also certainly see the coaches waiting to bring him back until the Thanksgiving game against the Giants. That would prevent him from playing two games in five days.

Caraun Reid- Reid was signed to the active roster today. The soon-to-be 26-year-old has played in 34 games (12 starts) and recorded 36 tackles (including 3 sacks) in his 4-year NFL

this d/line is basically the quality we had last season and thus we will struggle . injuries have hurt us . this is an area we must address in the draft

Ryan Kerrigan- You may not have guessed that Ryan Kerrigan led all Washington outside linebackers in snaps, because he seemed to be invisible in this game.

He tied his season-low with 1 tackle, a solo tackle on a 1-yard gain in the first quarter. Kerrigan also failed to register a QB hit for just the third time this year.

He was, however, tied for a team-high 20% pressure rate.

Preston Smith- Preston Smith didn’t have a big game either, but he was the most effective player on this unit.

He recorded a solo and an assisted tackle on one of the few drives the Vikings didn’t score on, and his QB hit on a first quarter third-down pass altered Keenum’s delivery and ultimately caused the incompletion.

Smith’s 83.4 PFF grade for the game ranked 2nd on the defense.

Junior Galette- Galette led the OLB corps with 2 solo and 3 total tackles. He pressured Keenum on several plays. Galette has consistently made one or two plays per game, but he has yet to make a major impact for the Redskins’ defense.

Ryan Anderson- Anderson recorded a tackle (1 assist) in a game for the third time this season and for the second game in a row.

He failed to pressure the opposition’s quarterback for the seventh time this year. It’s disappointing to see Anderson go o-fer as a pass rusher again, after he finally got back on the board last week.

Chris Carter- Carter’s totals for the season: 9 games, 2 defensive snaps and 0 defensive stats. Carter has only been on the field for 311 career defensive snaps and has recorded just 26 total tackles. He is purely a special teams player.

Brown was in for every defensive play, and, once again, led the team in tackles. This time out, he recorded 10 tackles (5 solo and 5 assisted), one of which was a TFL.

This was Brown’s seventh double-digit tackle game of the year. This is insane, considering that only one other player has recorded 10 or more tackles in more than four games this season. That player is Blake Martinez, and he only has five games with double-digit tackles.

There are only four players who have done this four times in a 2017 game (Bobby Wagner, Deion Jones, Joe Schobert and Tyvon Branch).

Brown is tied for the league-lead in solo tackles (62) and ranks second in assisted tackles (34). His whopping 96 total tackles lead the entire NFL by a margin of 13. There are only four other players with more than 75 tackles this year, which is a bar set 20 tackles below what Brown has.

Go vote for Zach Brown to make the Pro Bowl right now.

Will Compton- Compton started for the second consecutive week and played on about half of the defensive snaps before suffering a Lisfranc sprain. He made 1 solo tackle on the day.

He was placed on injured reserve today. The 2018 free agent may have just played his last snaps as a Washington Redskin.

Martrell Spaight- Spaight came in to replace the injured Compton and acquitted himself quite nicely in the second half of the game.

On just 29 snaps, Spaight recorded 2 solo, 5 assisted and 7 total tackles. He led the team in both assists and tackles-per-opportunity rate (23%). One of his tackles was a 2-yard TFL and all seven of them came within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage. The Vikings only gained an average of 1.7 yards per play on the snaps that Spaight made a tackle on.

Believe it or not, but Spaight who ranks 17th on the defense in snaps (159), has recorded the fourth most total tackles on the team. He will get plenty of opportunities to make tackles on Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara next week.

Josh Harvey-Clemons- JHC hadn’t taken a defensive snap all season going into Week 10, and that didn’t change on Sunday. I’d like to see more behind the reason why the coaches felt it was so necessary to keep him on the active roster instead of the practice squad. He should finally get some playing time with Will Compton on the shelf.

Zach Vigil- The team signed Zach Vigil to replace Will Compton. Vigil was on the Redskins’ roster from December of last year up until the final cuts in September.

very interesting numbers on spaight , would like to see what harvey clemons brings to the table

Yes, the dline is decimated and not very good right now. I truly believe we missed the boat this offseason trying to improve this area of the team. The McClain & McGee signings were a reach at best. Allen was given to us (1 sack, 3 QB hurries) during his time but the biggest improvement has been Ioannidis. I don't think anyone saw that coming.

This was easily Josh Norman’s worst game as a Redskin and in at least the last three years. Norman, who had only allowed 169 yards and 1 touchdown coming into the game, allowed all six of the targets thrown in his direction to be caught and gave up a season-worst 131 yards and a score on Sunday.

Norman also missed what would’ve been a drive-ending tackle on a third-down and dropped yet another interception on a Vikings’ touchdown drive.

I know Norman isn’t targeted that often, and because of this he deserves some slack in the INT department, but he is the only corner on the team who has played on more than 60 snaps without recording at least one interception.

He set new season highs in solo (7) and total tackles (9). He only topped those numbers in Week 3 of 2012, which was his third game in the NFL.

However, the reason he made so many tackles in this game, and probably in the aforementioned 2012 contest, was he was constantly tasked with tackling players that had just caught a pass against him.

Norman better get himself right in time for Sunday’s date with the Saints in the Superdome.

Bashaud Breeland- Josh Norman wasn’t alone on Sunday. Bashaud Breeland also had what was likely his worst game of the year. He gave up 6 receptions for a season-high 66 yards and a touchdown on 6 targets. The touchdown was only the second score that Breeland has surrendered in 2017.

He made 2 solo and 1 assisted tackles in the game.

Kendall Fuller- Fuller played on a season-low 35 snaps on Sunday, and his 57% snap rate was his second lowest playing time clip of the year (55% at Kansas City in Week 3).

He recorded 3 tackles and only allowed 1 reception for 9 yards and a first down on 4 targets. He was lined up opposite of Jarius Wright on Wright’s touchdown, but the pass was a screen thrown 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage, so you can’t really fault Fuller much there.

Quinton Dunbar- You would think the coaching staff might consider giving Dunbar a shot after Norman and Breeland both allowed season highs in yardage and gave up a touchdown. Nope, that is not what happened at all.

Dunbar did not receive a single defensive snap, despite the fact he started in each of the team’s last four games and is the only Skins’ corner who has not allowed a single touchdown or more than 62 yards receiving in a game this season.

Other Cornerbacks- This was the third consecutive week that Fabian Moreau and Joshua Holsey did not play on defense.

If the Redskins fall out of the playoff picture it would be wise of them to give Moreau and Holsey more playing time. They need to find out what they have in these players before they make a decision about re-signing Bashaud Breeland.

dont understand dunbar thing at all

Swearinger was one of the few bright spots for the Redskins’ defense on Sunday. He played on 100% of the snaps and recorded five tackles in the game (3 solo and 2 assists). One of those tackles was a TFL , he also stopped a Minnesota rush for no gain on another play.

He made his biggest impact of the game when he intercepted passes on consecutive drives in the second half, the second of which he nearly returned for a pick six (a 31-yard return to the Minnesota 2). Swearinger basically single-highhandedly put a struggling defense on his back and nearly willed the team to a comeback with those plays.

This was the first multi-interception game of his career and the first time that he has recorded a pick as a member of the Redskins.

Swearinger earned the highest PFF grade on the team (92.0) and the second best grade in the game for his performance against the Vikings.

DeAngelo Hall- DeAngelo Hall made his second straight start since coming off the PUP list. He made 2 solo tackles and assisted on another before he was forced to leave the game with a bone bruise. Hall, who was on the field for all 83 defensive snaps last week, was limited to just 21 snaps on Sunday.

At 34 years old, he is the third oldest safety to have started in a game this season. Hall simply can’t seem to stay healthy, and he is scheduled to hit free agency in March. His days as a Redskin are likely numbered.

Deshazor Everett- Everett replaced Hall at safety and played 38 snaps, by far his highest total since Week 1. In fact, that was only one less snap than he saw in his last four outings combined (39 snaps). He recorded 3 tackles on Sunday (2 solo and 1 assist).

Montae Nicholson- After starting in four consecutive contests between Weeks 4 and 7, the rookie safety missed his second straight game with a shoulder injury.

we miss montae , he and swearinger are our best safeties

Would also like to have seen us lock up ZB early this year with a multi-year deal. It didn't happen and I'm starting to think his pro bowl nod will get him a shiny new contract elsewhere.

- For the third time in the last four weeks, Josh Doctson set career highs in snaps (69) and snap percentage (92%). He also set new career marks in targets (7) and receptions (4).

It’s really encouraging to see Doctson’s playing time and receiving totals continue to rise; but at the same time, it’s frustrating to watch him and Cousins fail to execute and miss opportunities the way they did on a couple plays against the Vikings.

On one such play, Doctson slipped in the end zone on what would have been an easy 3-yard touchdown and the Redskins had to settle for a field goal on the drive. Then, on the next offensive drive, Cousins missed an open Doctson on what would’ve been a 35-yard score. The offense would turn the ball over on downs two plays later.

By my count, Cousins and Doctson should have hooked up for about 7 touchdowns so far this year instead of 3.

Jamison Crowder- Crowder’s 11 targets and 76 receiving yards were both tied for the most on the team and his receptions of 36 and 32 yards were the Redskins’ second and third longest plays on Sunday. That makes it two straight contests with a catch of 30 or more yards for the third-year receiver.

The problem was he only caught 4 of his 11 targets (36% catch rate) and all but 8 of his yards came on the two aforementioned receptions of 30-plus yards. The only other game in his career that he had a lower catch percentage in was three weeks ago against the Eagles when he caught 2 of 6 targets (33%). Crowder was only officially credited with 2 drops against the Vikings, but there were also two or three other catchable balls he couldn’t haul in.

The worst part about this was two of these plays took place on back-to-back snaps inside Minnesota’s 3-yard line. A Crowder touchdown on one of those throws would’ve made it an 11-point game midway through the third quarter. The Redskins, instead, settled for a field goal that cut the deficit to 15.

He took his only rush of the day for a 5-yard gain on a first-down play.

Jamison Crowder’s touch numbers have been way up in his last two games, and in turn so have his yardage totals. He’s put up a combined 216 yards from scrimmage in his last two outings, after gaining just 163 yards in the team’s first five games.

Maurice Harris- Maurice Harris was signed from the practice to the active roster on Saturday (his 25th birthday) and proceeded to go out on Sunday and have the best game of his career.

Here are all of the personal records Harris set in the game followed by the total for this game and his previous career high in parenthesis: snaps (41, 21), snap percentage (55%, 31%), targets (3, 2), receptions (3, 2), receiving yards (50, 28), first downs (2, 1), touchdowns (1, 0), yards per reception (25, 15) and yards per target (16.7, 14).

On Harris’ very first target of the season, he dived to make a spectacular, one-handed 36-yard touchdown grab. Not only was that his first target and reception of the year, it was both the first touchdown and the longest play of his entire career.

It’s absurd that it took the Redskins this long to figure out Harris should be on the active roster, and they lose points here because Brian Quick’s absence essentially forced them do so.

They should consider themselves lucky he wasn’t picked up by another team the way that Mack Brown was. Look for Harris to continue to get his fair share of snaps going forward. His ascendance may effectively be the proverbial final nail in the coffin for our next player.

Terrelle Pryor- Terrelle Pryor’s utter disappointment of a season continued on Sunday. His 28 snaps and 37.3% snap share represented his second lowest playing time of the year.

In terms of production, this was a new low for Pryor. He did not receive a single target for the first time this season. This was the second time this season and in the last three games that he was held without a catch.

Since his “breakout game” in Week 3 against the Chiefs, Pryor has only caught 7 balls for 54 yards on 13 targets (54% catch percentage, 7.7 yards per reception, 4.2 yards per target).

I don’t think just saying Pryor has been one of the biggest disappointments on this team does his season justice; he has been one of the biggest disappointments in the entire NFL in 2017.

Ryan Grant- Grant caught all 3 of his targets for 25 yards and a first down, despite only playing on a season-low 9 snaps. Grant was forced from the game with a concussion that he sustained on his third and final catch of the day.

Last week he broke his record of 23 receptions in a season; on Sunday, Grant set a new single-season career high in receiving yards (279 yards). This has easily been Grant’s best season in the pros.

Brian Quick- After setting new personal season highs in virtually every receiving statistic last week, Quick missed this week’s game with lingering concussion symptoms

i am thinking dox and harris could be the future here

- The Redskins’ #1 tight end started in his 23rd straight game for the Redskins on Sunday. Jordan Reed, who did not play this week, has never started in more than five straight games (5 consecutive starts between 2015 and 2016). Davis set new season-highs in snaps (64) and snap percentage (85.3%).

He led the team or was tied for the team lead in targets (11), receptions (7), first downs (5), receiving yards (76) and yards from scrimmage (76). This was the second week in a row that Davis led the team in virtually every major measure of receiving and overall offensive production.

The target and reception totals were both season highs for him. This was Davis’ first 11-target game since Week 6 of the 2013 season and his first 7-catch game since Week 14 of 2015. He has only been targeted more three times in his 173-game career and has only caught more passes on five occasions.

VD had another solid outing, but I need to keep things objective here and tell you where he messed up, too. He dropped a pass, committed a holding penalty and 45% of his targets, 43% of his receptions, 40% of his first downs and 62% of his yards all came on the Redskins’ final offensive drive.

Jeremy Sprinkle- The rookie tight end out of Arkansas started for the third time this season and for the first time since Week 4. He played on 23 snaps after setting a career-high with 24 snaps last week. He was not targeted in the game.

Other Tight Ends- Jordan Reed and Niles Paul both missed their second straight game. Since Reed entered the league in 2013, he and Paul have combined to miss 48 man-games out of 146 combined possible man-games between them (33%).

i am thinking bot paul and reed sit next week vs saints to avoid playing 2 games in 5 days

Trent Williams- Trent Williams returned after missing the last two games with a nagging knee injury. He played on every offensive snap and earned the second best PFF grade by a Redskins’ offensive player in the game (86.1).

Chase Roullier- Chase Roullier got the start at center for the third consecutive game and took a season-high 65 snaps.

Rouillier’s 2017 PFF grade of 45.7 ranks 29th out of 37 qualifying centers.

Shawn Lauvao- Lauvo’s season-long grade is even worse: 40.2 (59th out of 79 guards). He played on 100% of the snaps for the sixth time this season.

Spencer Long- Long gave it a go a few drives into the game, but the same injury that sidelined him for the last two weeks limited him to just 12 snaps on Sunday.

Brandon Scherff- Brandon Scherff returned from injury and only missed two snaps because he lost his shoe. If I recall correctly, a loose shoe is also what caused Scherff to miss his only offensive snap of the 2015 season. The third-year guard should consider investing in some better footwear.

On the team’s final offensive play of the contest, Scherff allowed the only sack of the game when Danielle Hunter ran a stunt and beat him inside for a takedown of Cousins that cost the offense 14 yards and forced a much longer field goal.

Morgan Moses- Morgan, the iron man, Moses was in on 100% of the snaps for the third straight week, despite his pair of sprained ankles.

His PFF grade of 87.2 ranked first on the offense and second on the team.

Ty Nsekhe- Nsekhe suited up for the first time in nearly two months and saw 3 snaps with the offense. He had been recovering from core muscle surgery.

It was good to see Nsekhe and the rest of the team’s key offensive linemen back on Sunday. Unfortunately, their return didn’t really have the desired effect on the outcome of the game.

SL needs to be replaced

Chase , is learning as a 6th round rookie so i wont beat him up too much . again we should sit Long vs the saints and have him play vs giants

The debate over Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins -- his every throw results in questions of his worth -- obscures one reality. And a problem. It's not whether Cousins is great or not; it's that the Redskins too often need him to be great in order win.

There have been exceptions since Cousins became the full-time starter in 2015. But too often, it holds true. If Cousins doesn't play well, the Redskins struggle.

If he throws an interception -- just one -- they usually lose. He's thrown a pick in five games this season; the Redskins have lost four of those. Carson Wentzhas thrown a pick in five games; the Eagles have won four.

Quarterback is the most important position. Cousins' contract is always a focal point, so a lot of the debate centers around whether he's worth a certain amount. That's not going to change.

points allowed. The Redskins have a good, young talent base, but losing Jonathan Allen and Matt Ioannidis hasn't helped. The coaching staff is also solid. There's reason for optimism, but when will that turn into consistent results?

It hasn't helped that they've played seven of the NFL's top 11 scoring offenses -- and eight of the top 10 when it comes to yards per play. That's a brutal schedule. Look for second-half improvement as the schedule eases.

Still, if the Redskins want to be anything other than ordinary, those numbers must improve. That's true of these numbers too: The Redskins are 23rd in rushing yards per game and 25th in yards per carry.

Look at Sunday's opponent, the New Orleans Saints, for proof that just about any quarterback needs help to win. The Saints have a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Drew Brees, yet they finished 7-9 in four straight seasons before 2017. This year? They have a running game and a defense -- and Brees -- and they're 7-2. The difference, of course, is Brees has won a Super Bowl; no one wonders how far he can lead a team.

From 2013-15, Matt Ryan's Atlanta Falcons went a combined 18-30. He's clearly shown what he can do when he has more talent around him, but he wasn't enough in other years. Since 2010, the Chargers, led by Philip Rivers, own a 54-67 record.

You can use those stats to bolster your argument for and against Cousins. That's not the point. His value is what it is, and you can pay it or not. The point is: No matter who's at quarterback, the Redskins need to create a situation where they can win more if the quarterback doesn't play great. Yes, Cousins threw a costly pick against Minnesota -- so did Vikings quarterback Case Keenum.

Cousins has posted total QBRs of 77 or higher in three of the five losses (QBR measures the impact on a game much more than passer rating). The average QBR in a win by quarterbacks this season is 65.4. In two of Washington's wins, the Redskins showed what can happen when other facets work: A strong run game led the win in Los Angeles, and the defense spurred the win in Seattle. Cousins made plays when needed.

Since 2015, Cousins has thrown a combined 44 touchdown passes to six interceptions in the Redskins' 21 wins. In the 19 losses, it's 22 touchdowns to 21 interceptions. He's never thrown more than one pick in a win. They're 6-15 in games where he's thrown one interception. Compare that to Wilson: The Seahawks are 8-9 when he throws a pick.

So for those saying Cousins alone can't carry the Redskins, you're absolutely right. Most QBs can't.

That's not to say you spend whatever it takes to keep a guy if you don't love him. So if the Redskins don't love Cousins? Simple: Don't pay him in the $25-$30 million range. Find another solution and move forward. They exist.

Then you need the defense and run game to improve. Until that happens, the Redskins will find themselves needing great play from one position. That's too much to ask on a consistent basis. And that's not Cousins' fault.

look at this really hard and you will see what kiem is saying is true in paragraph 10 it states the situation clearly

also a guy like keenum can throw a costly pick and the team overcomes it if KC throws just one the skins are twice as likely to lose . that is unacceptable for the team

Would also like to have seen us lock up ZB early this year with a multi-year deal. It didn't happen and I'm starting to think his pro bowl nod will get him a shiny new contract elsewhere.

Why? He is from the area (Columbia MD), has thrived in the system, is part of what should be a good unit moving fwd especially w/ good health & a few additions & most likely will get a very good offer from the Redskins. He probably also is a little tired of constantly moving to different cities.

What exactly gives you the feeling that he wants to go elsewhere? This seems to be a very good spot for him.

My inclination is not that ZB wants to go elsewhere but I think we are outbid for his services. Had we presented earlier this season when it was apparent what effect he has on our defense, we should have attempted to contact his agent looking to strike a deal. Even if his agent politely declined until after the season, it would have sent a strong message to his camp that "we want first right" to keep him. Maybe they have and that info was not made public. Doesn't hurt to pound the table over a guy the FO really likes and wants to have around long term.

Perhaps. I would have to think that keeping this guy is a top priority for this team. If that is true then I see no reason they can't sign him. If nothing else Allen is supposed to be a master of the cap so he can likely get this done in a manner that that doesn't handcuff the team too much. Also - not sure if Brown is the type of sexy FA that is going to cause other teams to break the bank for his services.
