as we all know there's the meat of the contract, and then there's the player agent's 'fluff'.

if Vick did what he did for the 49ers, would fans here give him this contract? based on one year's performance, who here would've given him this or very similar contract?

Exactly, it does come with $40m gauranteed, but you are right, his take home will be much less than the advertised amount.

My reaction was based on giving him $40m gauranteed based on what I believe will be an outlier season.

I guess it is obvious I would not have.

say its $40M guaranteed and $40 more in base/incentives, thats $13.3M/year. sounds about 'franchise tag' level?

Perhaps that is the going rate for someone who had the type of season he did and I'm out of line, but that just seems way over the top.

Part of my reasoning comes from firmly believing that he will be lucky to ever put up those kind of numbers again. Now, if I am wrong and he does repeat those type of numbers for the next 3+ years then I would say he is worth every penny.

Honestly, I see defenses catching up to him this year, but we shall see here shortly.

wait....the 2011 franchise tag amount is ~$19M??!! did i get that wrong?

IF so, $100M over six years averages to $16.6M.

you're correct, someone has to project his performances over another six years? if not six, then how much more at that high level? this is why GM's have such a tough job, they're wrong more times than right cause its the nature of the beast.

anyways, if my tag research was correct, i'd say yes too. cause if Vick can keep it close to last year, their window stays open. without a franchise level QB, its a TOUGH row to hoe.

I think Vick can keep that level of play up. The receiving corps in Philadelphia is among the best, and so is the coaching staff. It'll seem like a bargain if they can win at least one Super Bowl.

I agree. It seemed that defenses had started to catch up to him by the end of last year honestly.

agree, IF he can even be close to last year's performance, that keeps their window open longer. if he wins a SB within that span, yeah its worth it.
