He's far from the only starter they've got who have bad saber geek garbage stats, but hey, bottom line cuz.. they keep most of those runners off the board, so, to me.. that's everything-- how many of those assholes cross that plate. Style points to me aint shit

I'm with in the sense. At the end of the day results are what matter (runs)

But as far as ascertaining what lies ahead from today on. These stats are very telling that he basically a league average pitcher and that's what he will reflect.

He is what he is right now. He sports a 3.88 ERA. His LOB rate is almost exactly his career average and his BABIP is about 40 points above his career average.

OPS against is .718. Which is a little below the AL average of .726. As his ERA is just slightly below league average too. He pitches in a pitcher Park, that's how it should be...

Okay, so you basically saying the saber-metric stats point back to his ERA being around where it should be?? Okay, I'm cool with that. Now, begs the question.. with the Tigers lineup being what it is, are we fine with a 3.88 pitcher out there for us?? Absolutely.. you can feed me that with a spoon.

Depends on what you're paying him. You've got a pretty damn good top three in Verlander, Scherzer, and Sanchez so you'd be set up nicely for the playoffs in that regard. But the question is, is he worth what you're paying him?

*sigh* no 3.88 ERA is ever worth over 20M a year. The hope is that at some point he gets back to being dominant again, or if not then at least better than this year anyhow ; > /

Pitchers have bad years. He's obviously not worth 20 million this year but you have to consider he's already given you some surplus value. You just have to hope this year is an outlier.

Yes, that would be the prayer.. it's possible though, most great pitcher have that lesser year in there here and there IE Ryan, Clemens, Seaver, Carlton etc.

Sed that masterpiece against a powerful lineup like Cleveland ehere he was not to be denied?? See, that's ehat I'm telling you, great pitchers who have proven themselves over a number of years are nobody to be trifled with or underestimated. Guys like Seaver, Carlton, Clemens, Rysn, Blyleven, Perry, Morris and Verlander go sour for stretched but when they click the light back on, it's your ass sweetie.

It appears that the years and injuries have taken their toll on JV. Seems he is likely done
