On paper, they are one of the most successful CBB teams in recent history, but for some reason when I think of them I still don't think "powerhouse".... I know it probably sounds dumb, but I can't be alone here can I? :noidea:

Oh, I know they are based off their accomplishments... but I just still can't think of them as a powerhouse. It's weird, I know.

Do u say that maybe because they havent done it as long as say Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, or teams like that?

Yeah, probably has something to do with it. Most of their accomplishments came from 1999 and on. So much success in such a short amount of time is impressive, don't get me wrong... but idk. lol

Well, I hate Duke more than any other fan on this board, but they are a national power. Maybe not in a historical sense like Carolina, UCLA, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, but they are up there. So is AZ, Michigan State, UConn, Louisville, Florida, Syracuse, and teams like that.

Look at the last 15 title winners. There is a theme here.

I would definitely rank the top four as

UNC
Kansas
Kentucky
UCLA

in that order.

I think you are pretty alone. They are not a top 4 but they are very "power house" worthy.

Heck for some reason I thought they had more than 4 titles as it slipped my mind that this 15 year run was all of them. So they actually gave off an even better vibe to me then they are(which is still in fact great).

UConn has had great success playing team basketball. But I still think girls basketball when I think of the Huskies. Just like TN and Notre Dame.

They aren't one of the traditional blue-bloods. But if they keep going at the rate of the last 15 years, they'll be there in no time.

I agree. Mostly because 2 of the 4 championships were long shot surprises. Not mention that despite the success the program doesnt feel like it is even near the Calhoun hey days.

They have done much more with much less. You don't think of them as a blueblood because they don't pull top 5 recruits every year.

Since 1990 (pretty much the start of success in the Calhoun Era), they have recruited 9 McD AA.

In comparison, Duke has 44, UNC has 44, UK 29, KU 27. UConn has the same amount of titles in that time as Duke and more than all the others.

Hell, LSU has recruited more McD AA in that time.

It's a combination of recruiting hard nosed kids, great coaching, and luck.

Probably because they don't dominate the regular season. They don't spend weeks at #1, and aren't "hyped" like UK, Duke, UNC, etc...etc...

They're definitely a powerhouse, but they are also definitely not a blue blood.

They have won nearly a 1/3 of all the basketball titles in the last 15 years.
