does milkspiller22 really have to answer this... Milkspiller22's answer is obvious... Milkspiller22 thinks milkspiller22 should pick Rickey Henderson...

Milkspiller thinks Milkspiller chose correctly!!!

I can't find the "Fear Factor" stat anywhere on Jim Rice's baseball-reference page. Must be a typo.

It's in the same section where it would be on Nolan Ryan's page...

As highly rated and well respected as Ricky is, I still think he is one of the most under-rated players of all time. Dude was a flat-out beast.

Like the Winfield Sheffield one, I figured this one to be closer then it is.

Nothing against Rice, but Ricky is just that dominant. I think he would be in serious contention for an all-time 25-man roster.

A lot of it has to do with his Yankee days, but I always thought Ricky was overrated. He deserves the accolades he gets, but his attitude turned me against him.

I never got the sense that his attitude was a detractor. He was just an eccentric.

The fact that he ended up playing in the minor leagues at the end of his career actually made me like him even more. He CLEARLY loved the game and was going to have to be dragged off the field. He was not going to retire voluntarily. You gotta respect that.

It is funny what each person remembers of certain players. My three biggest memories of Ricky are watching the game where he broke the season SB record. Him saying his hamstring hurt and he couldn't play and the Yankees questioning his heart. His I am the greatest speech the same day as Nolan threw his 7th No-No.

Ricky's numbers say he was a top 25 player of all time. My memory says he was a shit. Which one do we trust?

Media plays a lot into how we picture players, I think. The Bay Area media tends to like to paint their local sports stars as heroes. NY tends to like to destroy them (there are obviously exceptions).

#24 (Dwight Evans) should have been retired and inducted into the HOF before Rice. He wasn't better than Reggie Smith either.

Rice was a very good hitter, but he was arguably feared more by the worms in the dirt than pitchers. Rice had three seasons where he grounded into 30+ double plays, and the two highest single season totals of all-time were achieved by him (36 in 1984, 35 in 1985).

Were you a Mattingly fan? He doesn't have an MVP on his mantle without Rickey (hell, I still think Rickey should have won it).

As for the hammy thing, wasn't that specifically a Lou Piniella complaint rather than a "Yankees" complaint? And it's not like Piniella has a spotless record when it comes to problems/fights with his players.
