This was easy enough. There were three or four guys that put up some great offensive numbers as well (like Brett and Chipper) but Schmidt has them all on defense.

Defense
Schmidt was a near-elite 3B. His dWAR and GGs both support this general feeling of his glove-work. I have no idea of Mathews' reputation, but based on dWAR, he was decent, but nothing overly special.

Schmidt wins this matchup easily. He is pretty clearly the GOAT 3B...

I have to go against the grain, Eddie Mathews was on the 1968 Tigers and maybe the only person to play for the Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves. Completely a homer pick.
