I hate analyzing pre 1920s players... I have trouble knowing what type of player he was...
Lajoie seems like he was a middle of the lineup bat, while Jackie was a top of the lineup bat...

so this is how I would rank the 2 players.

Power hitting- lajoie
Speed- Robinson
walks- Robinson
SOs- Robinson( Lajoie had less but in a time of low strike outs)
defense- Lajoie(but VERY CLOSE)
BA- Lajoie but again very close
intangibles- Robinson
Career longevity- Lajoie

Pretty much both players look like they would be elite at their role... So I guess I have to go lajoie here...

Robinson was only a 2B for 5 years. Granted, those were 5 elite years, but it is really hard to compare 18 seasons to 5 seasons.

For me, this was a no-brainer.

I am surprised you say that though... Of course you are right, but we tend to give some players the benefit of doubt to longevity... We do it for Shoeless joe, we do it for players who lost years because of WW2, we do it for Jackie and many others... If Jackie came into the league before he was 28 he would have played 2B for longer and not been 'disqualified'

Thare are valid counters to just about every argument, and that is a valid counter.

But I can only judge what I KNOW.

Why isnt Josh Gibson or Sadaharu Oh included in these tourneys? Because we are looking at MLB activity.
