Pts can be skewed for a various amount of reasons. I actually prefer per play and per drive stats. Regardless, any stat that has Auburn as the #11 and A&M as the #12 defense in the country needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

13 of 15 BCS Champions finished in the top 10 in scoring defense. 2007 LSU finished 17th in points allowed but finished 3rd in total yards allowed. 2010 Auburn was 53rd but had the best run D in the SEC finishing 9th nationally. 8 of 15 champions finished in the top 5 in scoring defense.
