I think Calvin does have some good years left but I'll have to sadly disagree with both him and the writer that he isn't at least past his peak prime, and that he's not on the decline. Calvin is a freak of nature, but he's also human. He's suffered numerous injuries to his hand, knees and ankle. Nothing wrong with saying he's still one of the top 3 WRs in the NFL, but I don't expect any 12 TD, 1500 yard seasons from him moving forward. I also don't expect him to play 16 games this year. Would love to be wrong.

Calvin is at the very beginning of his decline phase but still about 90-95% of his prime left..... Which is still the best WR in the game.

They say an NFL player's athletic "prime" (at least at the skill positions) is at 28 years old. Megatron is 29, going on 30. I agree with thndr that he's probably right at the beginning of a gradual decline, but he's still 90%-95% of his athletic prime.

This whole "30 years old" paranoia that the media has gotten so many fans to buy into has taken over for the common sense that it seems like a lot more people used to have...

90-95% seems about right. He will never be 100% again after the injuries anyway. It would not surprise me to see him put up 1500 yards or play 16 games. He just will not do it consistently going forward and his dropoffs will be bigger. I expect 3 good years and then a noticeable decline every year after that.

On the bright side he will still be 6'5 and 240 so he will always be a red zone threat until he hangs it up.

Nothing to do w the media. You're using the media here to say he's NOT declining. So which is it?

Follow the league. Look at Andre Johnson. Look at Calvin Johnson. He went went from no.1 to no.3 to no.15 in the past three years statistically. He's missing more games and being used as a decoy more each year. He can still do all the things he used to do, he just can't avoid injury or recover as quickly at 30 as he could in his 20's.

Which other WR can consistently beat double or even triple coverage and can out muscle DBs and safeties? Megatron is still the #1 WR in the NFL today.

He's not even 30 yet, though. He's been injured the last two seasons, simple as that, imo. He's not old enough to be noticeably slowing down yet, also imo.

Additionally, Andre Johnson is a great example to look at- check out his 2012 and 2013 seasons when he was 31 years old and 32 years old, respectively. In his last 3 seasons, ages 31, 32, and 33 he's put up 3941 yards on 306 receptions. I'll happily take that level of production out of Megatron over the next 4 years...

Megatron at 95% is still better than 99% of the rest of the WRs in the NFL. Even at the (senselessly) dreaded 30 years old there's only a small handful of WRs at his level. Dez Bryant, A.J. Green, and Antonio Brown are the only ones who come to mind... Demaryius Thomas is right up there, too...

But Andre Johnson didn't the luxury of an Elite QB......

broken down bodies can and do occur before that 30 year old marker especially in the NFL

IMO
Agreed. Marcus Lattimore broke down at 23. Some happen earlier, some later. 30 is a pretty solid marker for RBs, but there's plenty of top-flight players north of 30 years old, too. Seems like WRs fall off between 33 to 35 years old, at least the good ones. And Megatron is a pretty good one.

Most outside of the few chuckleheads on this board have this opinion. We will just have to wait and see. This year will be telling for him.
