Top Tier: Oregon, Oklahoma, Florida St, Alabama
2nd Tier: Auburn, Baylor, Texas AM
3rd Tier: Michigan St, Notre Dame

Analysis: The top 5 teams all had problems with opponents last week. All could have lost, but each one survived. Therefore I'm leaving them in the same order. All have survived against at least one decent team except Notre Dame, in light of the collapse of Michigan. Florida St and Oklahoma still have the best chance to run the table.

Biggest Surprises: Texas AM, Mississippi State, Brigham Young, Utah

Analysis: Mississippi State shocked almost everyone with their win over LSU. They still face a gauntlet in the SEC West. BYU has a chance to run the table and possible win up in the top 10. Toughest remaining game should be at Boise State. Utah "shocked" Michigan, but how good is Michigan. The PAC 12 is loaded so time will tell with Utah. Texas AM seems to have the best chance to make the playoffs of the 4. Teams waiting in the wings are Arizona, Duke, NC State, Oregon St, Penn St and Georgia Tech

Biggest Disappointments: Michigan, Vanderbilt, Miami, Virginia Tech

Analysis: Michigan is the most disappointing. Losses to Notre Dame and Utah were not even close, and even the win over Miami (O) was closer than it should be. Vandy is a real shock as to how much they've deteriorated from last year. V Tech looked great at Ohio State, then feel apart 2 weeks in a row. Miami lacks good coaching. Enough top quality people are on campus for a better showing than this year's team.

Heisman Trophy: Marcus Mariotta, Amari Cooper, Todd Gurley, Ameer Abdullah

Analysis: Jameis Winston, because of his conduct, will not win this year. Cooper and Abdullah both had another great game to spark their teams to victory. Gurley's figures were not as high as in previous games, but he remains in the running. Mariotta did more than enough to retain the top spot.
Moving into contention is Bryce Petty, having returned from his injury. Blake Sims is starting to make noise. Nick Marshall looks so-so without a strong running game. Kenny Hill has started to drop off a bit. Melvin Gordon needs more than 1 great game to get into contention.

Playoffs: Oregon, Oklahoma, Florida St, Alabama

Analysis: If Winston can keep out of trouble, Florida State is almost a lock. Oklahoma is the next likeliest, with the match against Baylor the key game. If they lose, Baylor could make the playoffs. Oregon has a tough conference to survive, but even if they lose 1 game and win the conference, they should qualify. Alabama has the toughest schedule of the 4, but it's favorable. Games at Mississippi, and LSU and the home finale against archrival Auburn will test the Tide.
Waiting in the wings is Texas AM, Michigan State and Notre Dame. Michigan State must run the table to have a chance and Notre Dame likely the same, including a visit to Florida State.

Biggest games this week.

UCLA at Arizona State. 2 undefeated teams with both QB's hurt. Arizona State by 3, unless something changes with the QB's.
Florida St at NC State. 2 more undefeated teams. Florida State by 21. Winston is back.
Stanford at Washington. Great match, I like Stanford by about 6 points.
Oregon State at USC. Oregon State a surprise undefeated with an excellent QB. Not yet sold on USC, but I'll take them by 7 points.
