Charlie McBride watching practice.

Charlie: Say Mike, why doesn’t the defense try to strip the ball from the scout team?

Mike: Huh, I’ll have to look into that.

Mike: Say Bob, why doesn’t the defense try to strip the ball from the scout team?

Bob: Because coach; we don’t allow strippers on the practice field.
LOL!!

Mike to Charlie " we watch a lot of game film though "

@Tomhusker
Looks like we'll have ice by the end of the week locally.

Watch the reports on Wanahoo and Summit and that will be a decent guide for the rest of the lakes.

Ice Fishing Nebraska

I've fished Wanahoo plenty of times but never ice fished there. I get the impression that it almost gets over-fished in the winter.

Saw a report from yesterday that Cunningham is locked up and has about 2 inches. Friends and I are hoping to have enough ice to get out this weekend

Looking at the 5 day it's looking pretty good for end of the week. I don't fish city limits Omaha lakes much because of the pressure. When I have it's been a quick outing with the kiddos to Standing Bear for trout in the shallows or crappie and white bass at 12' - 15' or so. Wehrspann is ok for crappie. I haven't fished Cunningham since they drained it a few years ago.
I've got some great farm ponds within 40 minute drive where I can fill a 5 gallon bucket of hand size bluegill in a couple hours. Icey bluegill make for some good eating.

I'll hit Wanahoo or Branched Oak sometimes because they stock walleye's there.

I'll be watching. Some of my old go to lakes in Iowa are just now locking up, but should be good by the weekend.
I think next week the wife has to go back up to Minnesota for a few days for work, so I'll be tagging along with the ice gear. They have been on the ice up there for a couple of weeks already. Should have enough ice to drive out on the lake by that time. Plus, my Minnesota fishing license doesn't expire until March.

I agree with the city lakes. I prefer fishing out in the country, has a different feel and relaxation factor. Although there are a few lakes in town that we've pulled nice sized fish from and convenient if we're looking for a quick trip

I'm hoping I can get permission to get out on some of the farm ponds I used to fish. I prefer those over the lakes.

Is it a party foul if I start a game thread here on Sunday for the UCF/Auburn game?

I’m moar excited to see that game than any other game by far......including the Natty.

Swung by Standing Bear earlier this afternoon. Ice in the shallows is 4".

Will be 6 within the next 48 hours.

That shit will be nearing 10” by week’s end. Grab the 4-wheeler and the hut. Time to go ice fishing.

I'm in! Except I don't have a 4 wheeler...

Me neither, but my pa does. He’s an amputee ice fisherman. Can’t get around any other way.

The ice is gonna be perfect within jest a few short days. Time to go get that record Blue Gill!

However.....
Friction causes heat and heat melts ice. The earth bit going round and round would eventually melt you a hole.

Most of the posts I'm reading are saying around 2-4 inches on most lakes around here. I'd really lough to get 3-4 more inches in the next day or two before I head out this weekend. I prefer staying dry

I certainly wouldn't venture out into what was open water a week ago. That is most likely the 2" they're referring to. Shallows that have been frozen over for a while now are 4". Walked out on it yesterday and talked to a couple different people fishing. I had a tape and hooked it on the bottom of the ice. 4" clear ice.
The water in that area would be 4-8' deep.
