This is for DFS purposes but what is the logic? What predicated a hitter showing up and a pitcher having a bad game?

A lot of unpredictability is happening now. Suddenly Wainwright can pitch a good game in Arizona. Volquez can shut out Arizona. Suddenly Kris Bryant hits a grand slam last week in Miami after not doing such for a while and Rizzo had bvp against said pitcher and was a supporter for Bryant. It's just complicated really.

How does this happen? Is baseball really based on more luck than matchups?

The more I try to understand what you're asking the more I come to the conclusion that you watch very little baseball.

I don't have cable so I do watch very little baseball. But you don't really have to watch baseball to know it. You're not going to know what pitch one is throwing without looking at the gamecast.

A great hitter fails 70% of the time. Baseball is about ups and downs. Always has, always will.

the first thing I like to do is look at lefty/righty splits... Not the stats, just whether an offense is heavy lefty or righty, and whether the pitcher is lefty/righty... the second thing I like to look at is strike out rates... If the offense is prone to strike outs and the pitcher is a good strike out guy, then you are in great shape...

Just because you are pitching in an offensive stadium vs a good offense doesn't mean that the offense has a good matchup...
