Just "Room." The Room is a far different film and absolutely not a "good movie" in any sense. But yes, Room is very good.

Spoilers tags guys! Just saw Split and loved the reveal at the end and would hate to have had it spoiled.

Yeah Room.

I'm not going to see this one because I'm 1,000% sure that I'll weep like a baby during it.

Split: Actually thought it was pretty decent given Knight's movies of late. Liked the ending setting up a possible sequel to one of his classics.

Finally watched Hush from Netflix as well. Talk about a underrated film. Thought this really should have been in the theaters. Most movies in this genre take forever to really get to the suspense. This film starts about 15 minutes in and never let's up. Really enjoyed it given its budget and expectations going in. Very tense movie with really great acting.

Have you not watched The Room with rifftrax commentary? It's a great movie in that context.

Barry Lyndon: 3.5/5 stars. Classic rise-and-fall chronicle of a man's life, with the theme of fate being paramount throughout the whole film. I wouldn't say I loved it, nor do I love Kubrick (at least not from the four movies of his I've seen), but I do have to appreciate how the cinematography and natural lighting viscerally puts one in the aura of the location where the events took place. Also, props to Ryan O'Neal for giving a HELL of a performance as the titular character. I mean, this motherfucker nailed all the themes of the movie: a desire to belong, fate, and grief.

I'd recommend if you like period pieces, Kubrick, and have 3 hours to spend.

A totally beautiful film. It was like you were looking at paintings from the Masters.

But the story and acting just didn't connect with me. There was almost no dialogue and the acting seemed as wooden as their made up faces..

I like Kubrick films a lot. I can understand why many have problems with 2001. I loved it right up to the moment they reached Jupiter. And that was ok, interesting but pretentious is a good word for the ending and there are slow parts too.

But up to that I was such floored.

If you compare 2001 with the Martian and look at how each portray life in outer space and what it would be like it's amazing how good 2001 was.

Given that it was made in 1968!

Amazing.

John Wick: 3.5/5 stars. Not bad for a mindless, kill everyone in sight movie. And that's what this movie is. If you think there's anything more pronounced or annunciated in this movie, you're wrong. It's an hour and 41 minutes of Keanu Reeves killing everyone in sight, which is pretty entertaining.

For these type of movies, I like my anti-heroes to have more motive (Liam Neeson in Taken, 4/5 stars); and I like my anti-heroes to be less humanized and talkative (Ryan Gosling in Drive, 4/5 stars). I also like my foreign villain to be more hammy and use a little more over-acting (Gary Oldman in Leon The Professional, 2/5 stars, but not his fault).

Nocturnal Animals: 2.5/5 stars. While very intriguing and suspenseful in some parts, this was a misfire by director Tom Ford. Gyllenhaal, a top 5 actor of all time of mine, was very flat in this movie. I couldn't tell his character's motives (in the novel storyline) for most of the film. I understand that he was playing a character who was supposed to be "weak" (a motif in the film), but even his final act came off as not out of bravery, more so anger (which wasn't even annunciated that much until the final act). For example, compare his reaction to the event that took place in the film to Matthew McConaughey's reaction to seeing his daughter grow up in real life in Interstellar. MM's reaction was some fucking emotion that Gyllenhaal lacked. And for those who will say that that was part of his character being "weak," I'm not buying it. It's not weak, it's just flat acting.

Still, he was passable, and so were Amy Adams and Taylor-Johnson. I was expecting ATJ to be a little better (they did a great job with his appearance), but whatever. He just played a one-dimensional asshole murderer, which I guess is what his role asked of him, so that's cool. Michael Shannon was fucking awesome, for the millionth time. A movie reviewer wrote of him after seeing Take Shelter that he could "watch Shannon watch paint dry for an hour, and still be captivated by him." I totally agree. He's my second favorite actor of all time.

The two films I saw today, this and John Wick, are great examples of my philosophy that some movies are more up-and-down than others. John Wick, which you can see I gave 3.5/5 stars, was 3.5/5 star good all the way throughout. Nocturnal Animals had some borderline awesome and really captivating moments, and some really dull ones also. Overall, I gave Nocturnal Animals my precedented 2.5/5 star rating with a negative review.

Dark City: 2/5 stars. Had a pretty intriguing set-up, only to be squandered by a boring explanation for said set-up. Felt like a bad 2000's video game at times.

The Accountant - I'd give it 3.5/5 stars. I thought that it got better as it went the further along it went, even though it was mostly predictable.

John Wick 2 - 5/5

If you loved the first movie, you will love the sequel as much or more. The film immediately starts out with a bang. Lots of action, lots of dead bodies. If you are looking for a loud R-rated action movie with a large body count, this is the movie for you.
