Went to see “The Post” with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, in a theater in Hagerstown, Maryland last week. Having lived through the Vietnam War (U.S. Navy 1965-1969) the story line was very meaningful to me. I knew of the characters that they portrayed and were involved with. I throughly enjoyed it and it kept my attention, even though a bit lengthy. Acting was superb, as would be expected, even though I am not a fan of the political views of some of the actors. I try not to let that influence me as to whether or not I spend money on a movie that I choose to see. I hear that it may be up for awards. I soon want to see that new movie “Hostiles,” being a big western fan all my life. It is in that same theater now and I usually go to the early matinee.
Got a best picture and best actress nod, but doubtful it'll get either. I have it in my queue, but just have no interest in watching it. Felt the same about the Darkest Hour and didn't much care for it.

Love & Mercy: 1/5 stars. God only knows how much I wanted to like this film. It had a chronicle of a young Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys' early career and the process it took to make 'Pet Sounds.' It had 'Smile' and its collapse. It had old Brian Wilson. It chronicled Wilson's relationship with Eugene Landy. It didn't go soft on Landy, it portrayed him as the monster he was, and psychiatry as the force of oppression it often is wielded as. It had Paul Giamatti. It had Bill Camp as Murry Wilson. Bill fucking Camp, and the movie was still pretty terrible.

I liked the beginning with the making of 'Pet Sounds.' The rest sucked. And I really only liked that part because I like the real life 'Pet Sounds.' If this movie wasn't a biopic, and was pure fiction, I wouldn't have given a shit about that either.

Paul Dano was decent in his portrayal of young Brian. Cusack was good in his portrayal of old Brian. And this may be no fault of either actors', but Brian just comes off annoying to me. And sort of so did Elizabeth Banks' portrayal of Wilson's girlfriend (Banks, much like Dano and Cusack, was decent enough- I just kind of didn't like her character). Her love seemed real, but still forced to me as it was portrayed in the film. Like she was more in love with the thought of being in love with Brian than she actually was in love with him, but never realized it.

The biggest disappointment to me was how negative it was. Obviously, Brian Wilson's real life was surely full of trials and tribulations, but for a film entitled "Love and Mercy," it did nothing to inspire either feelings in me.

Oh man, I'm sorry you didn't like it. Wife and I loved it. A very well written review however.

Today I went to the 12:00pm showing of “Hostiles” in Hagerstown,Maryland. It has been billed as “the best western since Unforgiven” with Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman. That won a lot of awards including best picture. This movie, today, had outstanding cinematography, period dress and very accurate period firearms. Christian Bale did a great job as a U.S. Cavalry captain and Wes Studi in one of his many roles as an Indian chief, was good also. Very bloody, as expected with a modern western, but not as good a story line as Unforgiven, premise here being that an army captain, along with some help, is escorting a dying Indian chief to his burial ground in Montana. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it, but it moved slowly. Maybe that is how the director wanted it to be. I still like to watch Unforgiven again when I get the chance.

Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

Based on true events. Well-written and well-acted. Really good but not great. Matt McC and Leto won Academy Awards for this one.

Just saw this tonight. I enjoyed it due to what you mentioned...great cinematography en sech.

I thought the underlying story was about melancholia (even hinted/mentioned it at the beginning) and even PTSD to an extent. The cumulative emotional effects of the time and place en sech. About finding your humanity in the worst of situations and of course ya just gotta have a love story in there cuz it's Hollywood en sech.

I loved Unforgiven when it came out, but admittedly have not watched it in a very long time. Moving that up the mental list now.

One False Move - Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton (also wrote the story)

Gritty. 3 bad guys come to a small town where Paxton is sheriff.

I thought Love and Mercy was good. I had to do a search and gave it a B+ only finding fault with the acting being nothing noteworthy.

Bladerunner 2049. Didn't care much for it myself. Tough to follow and took forever to generate any interest, at least in me. The last bits with Harrison Ford saved a total collapse IMHO.

That's part of the travesty. Bill Camp and Paul Giamatti are two of the best character actors of their generation. Cusack is a good actor, and so is Dano, at least in what I've seen him in. And yet all their performances were flat.

I just felt that if it wasn't about The Beach Boys, nobody would give a fuck. My favorite parts were them recording in the studio. 8 Mile (4/5 stars) could have been made even if Eminem wasn't the famous rapper that Eminem was basing his performance off of- it still would have been a great movie.

4/5 is not bad. I thought it was a very interesting movie. Paul Dano gave a pretty good performance.

What does that mean?

A woman was very distraught at the fact that she had not had a date or any sex in quite some time.

She was afraid she might have something wrong with her, so she decided to seek the medical expertise of a sex therapist. Her doctor recommended that she see Dr. Chang, the well-known Chinese sex therapist, so she went to see him.

Upon entering the examination room, Dr. Chang said, "OK, take off all you crose." The woman did as she was told. "Now, get down and craw reery, reery fass to odder side of room." Again, the woman did as she was instructed. Dr. Chang then said, "OK, now craw reery, reery fass back to me." So she did.

Dr. Chang shook his head slowly and said, "Your probrem vewy bad. You haf Ed Zachary Disease. Worse case I ever see. Dat why you not haf sex or dates."

Worried, the woman asked anxiously, "Oh my God, Dr. Chang, what is Ed Zachary Disease?"

Dr. Chang looked the woman in the eye and replied, "Ed Zachary Disease is when your face rook Ed Zachary rike your ass."

This is interesting, but what does it have to do with your response to me about the movie Blade Runner?

This is interesting, but what does it have to do with your response to me about the movie Blade Runner?

Are we having an English - "Other" issue here?

Because my Ed Zachary was in reply to your reply to my reply about not being enamoured with Blade Runner Redux...

Wherein you stated you were not overly enthused with it and much preferred the original.

To which I said "Ed Zachary".

As in I agree, Bingo!, Bull's Eye, spot on, etc.

I'd post a video of me saying it so you could read my lips but sadly I am technologically challenged and possess neither the technology nor the inclination to do so.

Anything else?
