For something like Dunkirk, your loss.
For the sound effects alone, I agree.

But my goto “gotta see it in a theater” movie is Avatar. That was absolutely an event (even if the story was stupid as shit).

I'll likely live.

Too expensive, too much effort, too uncomfortable, no pause feature, no fume hood, etc.

I might consider it if I lived just up the street from a complex in Vancouver or something. But I don't.

I remember in 1986 wanting to go see Top Gun at the Stanley Theatre. Line up went around the block twice and included the next sitting. Sorry, but no.

Sound??? I have awesome sound. Teeth rattling.

As for Dances with Avatars...... I preferred the Kevin Costner version. And it didn't need 3D.

Of course. Still there are movies that are always going to be better on a large screen. Lawrence of Arabia, shot in 70mm, should be seen on a big screen.

If you haven’t seen Avatar in IMAX 3D, you havent it. It isn’t about the movie. It is about the visuals.

Once Upon A Time In Venice - I thought that this was a good straight to video movie. You could tell Jason Mamoa was having a blast with his character. Adam Goldberg as Lou the Jew was fantastic. 3 out of 5 stars

Rise/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - I watched both of these within the past couple of weeks. I thought that the first one was slightly better as I didn't really care much about any of the human characters in the sequel. I'll still probably check out War for the Planet of the Apes whenever it comes out on DVD. 2.5 out of 5 stars

Flags of our Fathers - A good but not great war movie. Still couldn't imagine what went through their minds on that island. 2.75 out of 5 stars

Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle, 9.5 out of 10. It has much better fight scenes than the first movie, even given the church scene in the first movie. However, it gets docked slightly for basically having a lot of parallels in terms of story line to the first movie. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't go further. Overall, it was just as good as the first movie.

I saw this one years ago. It was alright, but forgettable. I never watched Letters from Iwo Jima, though. Flags, I thought, wasn’t good enough to encourage me to watch the other. Have you seen that one? Is it worth watching?

I'm in the same boat. I haven't seen that one either. I was curious about it but the preview of it on this DVD didn't really do much to pique my interest.

It looks pretty damn fine on my 60" TV. Stunning in fact.

Ed Zachary.

Gimmick.

Can't stand on it's own merits.

No need.
It DOES stand up on its own merits. It’s merits are it’s visuals.

By your logic, a sunset is worthless. Looking out over the Alps I saw useless. Looking at a beautiful woman is worthless.

How much more 'pizazz' could you get than that shootout?

If you insist.

Still say it was Dances with Wolves and needed 3D to draw them in.

The story itself was tofu.

I want more out of a movie.

I am not arguing with any of your points. The story was less than stellar. But not watching it the way it was intended to be watched (IMAX 3D) is akin to watching What Dreams May Come in black and white.

I've had many tell me I just have to see it.

But I don't see the point. But I get yours.

I've seen one thing in IMAX and it was the Andretti Speed thing. Kind of cool. But I was interested in it. I don't have any interest in Avatar.
