Here comes the jinx, but I like his assists, steals, and shooting percentage so far. If he gets more time, let’s see if he continues to shoot good smart shots well or if he starts chucking the ball.

His career says that his shooting percentage will suck.

He might be good at the steals and assists though.

I’ll give him the rest of the season to see if he can improve and then next season to prove it. If he reverts, ok, he can’t shoot. If he doesn’t, it will mean that is a good shooter but a better decision maker on when to shoot, and in a better system. Obviously, these six games he’s very motivated and focused and everyone has good spurts.

Now that he is beyond the 10 day contract, let’s see if he can continue to shoot well. The last two games weren’t as good as the beginning seven or so. He shot 6-13 and last two games.

To answer your question about motivation, I think, every time that you don’t get a permanent change or contract, gets more and more likely to be your last chance. I don’t think that he ever didn’t try, but he may think that if he doesn’t succeed, he would be having to play in a minor league.

Obviously, people can respond to pressure by shooting a lot and missing because you feel the only chance is to score points. So that could have been bad, but he was making them. The fact that he had this incentive and shot well, I think it’s good, even though I know it is a small sample size.

You say he’s not a very good career shooter. That goes more to my point that he is either making good decisions on what shots to take or is smooth understanding this offense. Or is a good shooter. One or the other. The other possibility obviously is that he’s shooting well on bad shots and it’s a fluke. There are streaky shooters. I wouldn’t rely on him continuing to shoot well, because everyone falls back to their average, even though you can improve your average a little bit overtime. I’m just interested in whether he starts pushing things the wrong way. either because he thinks this is his last season and he gets desperate or because he got his deal.

What if Markkanen and Dunn finish their Jazz seasons 51%+?

I wanted the Lakers to look at him, but alas never came to be.

Three games ago he did not shoot well at all, something like one for eight or two for nine. The next game started at one for five but finished by 5/11. And then I think he shot 4-6, and so in the last three games, it was a dip, but not as bad, obviously, as the one for eight. But I will admit that the point that he was one for five I was thinking it was two for the last 13 shots and I was worried that it was over. Obviously everyone even those who shoot poorly have a good game sometimes, so when I say over, I don’t mean that, I just mean better decision making was over.

I think he should have a greenlight to shoot a good shot, even if he misses it, even missing multiple times in the game. But he should not have a greenlight to shoot a bad shot. Whereas Markkanen can even though obviously I want him to shoot a good shot. That sounds obvious, but there are some players in the pass, where I did not want them to shoot, unless it was a layup.

Normally, I would say that if you have five fouls, you’re not playing defense but I didn’t see how those fouls were committed because I didn’t watch the game and in the highlights above, you can see that he probably was causing more issues for the Clippers by being aggressive than he would have if he had not been fouling. So yes, you would hope that he doesn’t catch as many arms, but aggressiveness can be good. Again, I am assuming on how he got the fouls and he wasn’t reaching from
behind because he was slow or something.

I think I'd go with this starting lineup.

Kessler
Collins
Markkanen
[Horton-Tucker | Clarkson]
Dunn
