Man...you've gotta catch up! I'm pissed they didn't start with the Hobit instead of doing LOTRs first.

Yep. I gotta put these to the top of my list...

And, I'm guessing... but if they did the Hobbit first, it would have been only one film... I hear they added a ton of the back stories to this trilogy....

If you liked the books, please keep an open mind when you see the films. They have taken many liberties with the story. If you're a Tolkien purist, you may not be happy with some of the changes.

Just watch/enjoy the films for what they are.

I heard that the added stuff was for the Tolkien purists. He had a ton of side stories involving Middle Earth that they incorporated into the film (like where Galdolf went while the dwarves marched on)...

But yes... I intend to just watch with an open mind....

No way could the hobbit be a one movie film. Yes there were some back stories...like bilbo talking with frodo in the first hobbit movie. But I wouldn't say a ton is accurate.

I think it's almost impossible to make the movie like tolkien's books. Attention spans or maybe the need for immediate action are too short these days.

I guess I'm lucky...in that I haven't read the books in so long that I'm not catching most of the liberties.

I'm still having a bunch of fun with LOTR and the Hobbit series. I'm glad our tech is catching up with our imagination.

The only negative review.

"What a horrible way to go. Peter Jackson made history with his take on The Lord of the Rings and even the first two instalments of his Hobbit adaptation had their good points. The kiss off, however, is pompous, crude and bitty. And doesn't even have any nice songs."

No thanks. The horrible teen fan fiction that was the majority of the 2nd film was the last one I'll pay to see.

The second one blew but I have already this much. Kind of like when you have a $100 bet in holdem and someone goes all in for $120. Pretty much pot committed.

Also, Its one story that has not been done 8 million times already like most movies today.

Could have been better. To me it had to much resolution of one on one conflicts and not enough larger picture battle scenes. Glossed over a couple of, to me, more important scenes and it strayed (obviously, she elf, Legolas, etc...) far from the book. Still solid overall. Tons of action. B+ in my book. Worth the watch.

It was billed as running long and it did but only by 10 minutes or so. The other 2 had way more stuff that could have been on the cutting room floor.

Like the other 2, it was a bit of a sausage fest with only 1 woman in the whole thing.

Still, great story and nicely done. I felt it was the best of the 3.

Finally got around to seeing it. It will appeal to the younger folks more. Lots of fighting and not much plot movement. Most of it I do not remember being in the book TBH. They could have cut a lot of the second film and reduced some of the battles in this one and made 1 movie out of it that would have been much better quality. It is better than the second one which was mostly a farce IMO. The first was the better of the 3 and not nearly as "Hollywood" as the last 2.

Watched this movie a few nights ago and was very disappointed. Didn't think it was possible but this movie broke the record for characters saved from death at the last second. I understand he had to follow the books but this movie was simply 1 battle.....the entire movie basically. They should have fit it all into the 2nd Hobbit movie because this battle wasn't enough to carry an entire movie alone.

Reminds me of the Star Wars prequels. They don't come close to the original films. 2 huge opportunities between Lucas and Jackson that I hoped would have been better.

This series wasn't really bad. They were no where near the caliber of Lord of the Rings though.
