This is sad. The guy is a great player and I feel bad for him. I think he will really need to evaluate his career coming to an end. Far too many of these things and with what we now know about the cumulative effect, going back out there could be very dangerous, long term. Honestly, as much as I dislike the Panthers, I really liked watching this kid play.

I really hope those in the Kuechly camp are doing the right thing for the player long term. Unfortunately, great players don't want to see it end like this. Luke will do whatever he can to get back on the field. CAR might need to be the ones to make the decision.

Steelers released Ladarius Green, FA TE after only one season. Very good player, career cut short due to concussions...Kuechly appears to be heading in that same direction.

His last one really shook him up, I recall him balling like a new born on the field.

He really should hang up the cleats. No upside to this.

Agree. Great player. Seems like a good guy too. Sad to see this cost him his career, but he needs to figure out whether he should still be playing Football or not.

If the league was run by actual people with brains instead of guys greedy for profits, they'd realize this single issue has the power to destroy the NFL.

They should be investing as much as they can into research that will lesson or help eliminate concussions instead of running from it.

But greed tends to win out everytime. Fuck the players, I got my money, is how too many look at this

Go back to leather helmets

Strange as that may seem, it might be the answer. Heads are currently weapons. One not encased in Riddell armor might be less likely to be used as such.

Just like in hockey where the guys have hard elbow pads and shoulder pads and use them as weapons. Making them oldschool foam padding would help there too.

First and foremost I hope Kuechly recovers from this. Second, I hope everyone puts his health (short term and long term) first, including Kuechly himself, but also those surrounding him (family, friends, the Panthers and so on). And if it means him walking away, so be it.

It was a big loss for them when he went out. Suddenly Zach Ertz and slot receivers were open all the time.

He really got pancaked by Brandon Brooks. Kuechley is a great player but some of these injuries are caused by his very aggressive play, which his body maybe can't handle. Taking on 330-pound guards is probably not a wise move.

As much as I hate to think of the Panthers without him, I agree with the rest of you that he should hang em up.

So much for the woodpecker theory.
My kid has told me scientists are studding wood peckers skulls to make better helmets.
Something about their tong cushioning their brains when not extended.

Yup.

I'd made a comment on that on page 1 of this thread.
